I was somewhat reluctant to attempt this repair initially but when I saw that I could replace it entirely from the top (without rolling around under the vehicle), that I'd save $400 AND get a limited lifetime warranty (only 12 months from the dealer) I decided to give it a try. I allowed 4 hours for the project and completed in 1 hour and 20 min start to finish. Works out to about $200 per hour the way I figure it. Luckily I had all the tools necessary which consisted of metric end wrenches and sockets, 3 different extensions, universal and ratchet - that's it. If you have the tools and talent give it a try. Added bonus - NOT made in China!

Easy to install and purchased based on prior reviews. I noticed issues with the car needing to be jumped to start but figured bad battery and replaced the battery. Car failed to start numerous times and finally took car to dealership for analysis and culprit was the starter changed in Jan 2014. Disappointed in the quality as the original starter lasted over 13 years.

Comments about CARQUEST Starter - Remanufactured:

The remanufactured starter looked good except that the gear that engages with the engine should have been replaced as it had more chips in the teeth than the one I was replacing.

I just intalled this starter and it works, so far so good.
Its remanufactured, but its clean and looks brand new.
I'm not a mechanic, but I'm able to do some repairs myself and its nice to save money.
I was having problems with my car not wanting to start unless I kept trying the key or tapped the starter, then it finally wouldn't start at all, just click. I had gotten a quote of $250 from a shop to replace it. Advance Auto had the best price on starters, this was in stock at my store, and I got a 20% off code ordering online. A youtube video made it look easy to replace and it was, mostly just removing the air cleaner assembly and battery so I could get to the starter. The starter has 2 bolts fastening it to the engine, a nut fastening the cable from the battery, and a plastic clip fastening the wiring from the ignition switch. I only needed to use a couple of mm sockets and a Phillips screwdriver for the whole job.
It took me less than an hour to replace and I saved about $150.

My friends car would not start due to a bad starter. I immediately checked advance auto parts first.. i went online and saw that the starter was in stock so I place my order online.. Soon after i left and headed to advance auto parts. The starter was ready to pick up by the time I arrived at the store.. Customer service was great and i was in and out of thebstore in less than five minutes which was excellent.. The store was close to where i was going to have the vehicle serviced so I didn't have to drive far..

Comments about CARQUEST Starter - Remanufactured:

It was a perfect fit except for one minor detail. At least on the one I had, make sure to use one piece from the old starter. It's the black plastic piece at the base of the positive electrical lug. If you don't do this, the positive cable on the car does not mate up squarely with the positive lug on the starter. To remove the black plastic piece just loosen the nut that holds it down. Easy to swap out. Don't let this keep you from buying this starter. It worked perfectly after I got it installed. Super easy to do even with the minor part swap.

                  I have 2001 Lexus ES300.
I am trying to figure out how to remove the starter first before buying.

I managed to remove all the bolts and took starter out. I also removed the large wire cable. However, I had difficulty to remove the small wire attached to the solenoid part of the starter. The wire terminals seemed to be latched or clipped. Do you know how to remove this wire.

With respect to your inquiry on the Airtex Fuel Pump Module Assembly - Part No. E3506M, follow these steps to remove the starter on a 2003 Lexus ES300 V6: Remove battery, remove air cleaner inlet assembly, remove air cleaner assembly with hose, remove air cleaner bracket, remove air cleaner inlet No.1, remove starter assembly. While removing the starter assembly you will have to disconnect the starter connector, remove the nut and disconnect the lead wire from terminal 30 and remove the two bolts and starter. Once the 2 bolts are removed, wiggle the starter and pull back away from the transmission and the lock type smaller wires will come out clearly. Well this all depends on the skill level of whoever is removing or replacing the part. Some may have a harder time than others who have experience. I would recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.
