Works Great at a Great Price

It's a starter. Install it, turn the key, it cranks the motor. That's all I expect from it, and that's exactly what I'm getting.

Purchased this in Aug 2013 when starter died in Tallahassee Fl. I taking my daughter to college. I did not have my tools so I paid $60 to get it towed to a local shop and paid $80 to install the starter I purchased from advance. It is now may 22, 2014 and the starter is not workly properly. Several times when my wife tries to start the car it does nothing so I have to tap it with a hammer and it starts. It is not an easy job to install so regardless of the lifetime warranty it is not a good deal if you have to replace it every 7 months. My suggestion is to find a better quality oem rebuilt starter.

Comments about CARQUEST Starter - Remanufactured:

15 months and roughly 10,000 miles after purchase it engaged and would not disengage (just kept trying to star the car), shortly thereafter leading it to burn itself out. I had to replace it in a parking lot on the fly. I did get it replaced on warranty with no hassles, but I won't be purchasing another one of these in the future. I suppose it is worth the price to buy something higher quality when that specific part has the ability to strand you with no previous warning.

Installing the starter was a breeze. Getting access to the old starter was more difficult than installing the new one. Anyone with some basic mechanical skills can do it.

Easy to replace once the battery tray was removed

Comments about CARQUEST Starter - Remanufactured:

The starter itself was easy to replace in my 2004 Acura TL. Once the battery tray was removed two bolts removed the old starter. It took about 5 minutes to replace and the car started right up. Thank you!

      Mixed feelings

Comments about CARQUEST Starter - Remanufactured:

The bad news is that it only lasted 1.5 years before failing and stranding my wife and kids. The good news is that the lifetime warranty is the real deal. I pulled it out and took it to Advance and they handed me a new one no questions asked. Hopefully I just had a lemon and this second one will last longer!

                      A:

Hi Dr. Feinstone, glad to assist you! This part comes with limited lifetime warranty. The lifetime warranty part can be refunded for cash/credit within the 90 days time frame. After that time expires, it can only be exchanged for a new item. So the warranty is valid the life of the part as long as the customer owns the vehicle.

When your engine won't turn over when you turn the ignition on, it may be because
                      1. The battery is too weak,
                      2. There is a problem with the battery cable and insufficient electricity is delivered by the battery cables to the starter and other devices,
                      3. The solenoid is bad and won't turn on the starter motor or push the pinion out.
                      4. The starter motor is burned out.

So if you test the battery, electrical connections are good and not corroded or loose, and everything else electrical works, then you are left with the solenoid and the attached motor. Most likely the motor is burned out or the solenoid is not functioning properly so you can't turn over your engine.

Once you have eliminated the electrical system/battery, then you have to start dismantling and getting the old starter/solenoid out. You can also test this with jumper cables to see if it works /spins the pinion.

                    • A:

First obvious result is that the engine doesn't start. You check the battery and if it is 12.4 to 12.6 it is usually the starter. Another way to tell is if you listen carefully there is only one click when the engine doesn't start. If it is several clicks it's usually because of a weak battery.
