The "short" description of this radiator says "valeo" but I received a "Denso" replacement model instead.

The difference is different radiator cap size and drain value threads.

The Valeo model has a slightly bigger/deeper radiator cap and large threading for the drain value.

The Denso model is opposite.

Though I needed a valeo replacement, this denso model lined up with the OEM fans and hoses perfectly fine. It did came with a drain value but not a radiator cap which cost me an extra $10 when I had to go back to Advance auto parts.

If you drive an 98-02 Accord, then look around the top of your radiator for white sticker that will tell you if you have a Valeo or Denso model. You might have to clean off dirt to see it.

Be sure to bring your OEM drain value and cap to the store to make sure you got the right model. If not, then check if the replacement comes with the cap and drain value.

If you are unlucky and have a missing part then expect to make additional purchase.

Overall replacing the radiator can be done under 2 hours if you are prepare, if not then expect ~4 hours.

While this radiator fit perfectly in my 2001 Honda Accord.
It had an issue with the transmission line flare fitting.
The stock radiator uses brass fittings, while this was cheap aluminum that barely had a flare.
After install noticed transmission fluid leaking.
The flare did not hold a strong enough connection on the radiator.
Luckily the original brass fitting worked.
Had to do twice the work, and hopefully no other leaks happen.
Also seems that the stock radiator cap does not fix perfectly on this, so will have to replace that as well.

PERFECT FIT

Pros

  • Perfect fit!

Cons

  • Doesn't include radiator cap

    Comments about CARQUEST Radiator:

No big deal truth is Most radiators do not come with a radiator cap and while some do at the end of the day you still have to buy a thermostat the thermostat gasket coolant and additive which are additional purchases on top of the radiator so it ain't like you don't have to spend additional money on items anyway so no big deal for an extra ten bucks for the radiator cap.

      Comments about CARQUEST Radiator:

Radiator was easy to install, but the radiator cap was another problem. I had to make 3 trips back to the store and try another store to get a cap that would work. The last store had one in stock and opened it to try the caps. This radiator should come with the caps! Spent too much time and gas just to get a radiator cap to work. The first store was no help. Told me to remove the radiator and bring back for a refund or to check the internet for a fix. Wasn't happy!!!

          Comments about CARQUEST Radiator:

I'm not a mechanic, just picked up a lot of skills from my father who is one. I picked up this radiator to replace one on my 2002 Honda Accord. My original radiator's top inlet corroded a broke off, so I decided to go with a replacement instead of a fix. My local radiator shop were charging so pretty high prices to replace the top of the radiator, which was showing signs of wear (got about 200,00 miles off of it so it was time). Found a great deal at Advanced Auto that dropped the price of radiator almost in half so this was a no brainer. The install was pretty simple. It took me a couple of hours but I'm meticulous by nature and was taking my time cleaning parts and replacing hose clamps (I really hate the ones the manufacturer provides). During the install remember to replace the rubber mounts at the bottom of your original radiator, I almost forgot mine. Lastly there is a metal screw adapter that comes in the box. You'll need it to properly affix the radiator cool fan that holds the motor (insert it with the nipple side facing the motor). So far I've had no issues with the new radiator.

            Comments about CARQUEST Radiator:

Purchased this radiator for my wife's 2000 Honda Accord SE (4 cyl.) with 173,000 miles. The hoses were also changed since the car is over 15 yrs. old and I can't remember if the dealer replaced them when I took it in for the timing belt and water pump maintenance (I"m pretty sure I was charged whether they were replaced or not!). The hoses purchased were part# E71478 and part# D71967 and were exact fit. After installation of the radiator I realized the cap off the old radiator does not fit this one. I purchased part# 10233, took it home and realized it was the same one I had!! I went back and purchased the 10244 and it was the one. I hope this helps someone down the road. The only issue was the blind plasic fasteners that reassembles the shroud to the frame. I broke/busted them and now can't put it back on. I guess I'll have to go to the dealer and purchase them. I can only imagine the price they will be! Does anyone have a suggestion about these fasteners?

As other stated this radiator did not last long. I installed this radiator and a week later found a hairline crack near the radiaor cap neck. Returned it for a second one so hopfully no more leaks. Great warrany but not worth the hassle to reinstall another one.

Can I change from a Valeo type radiator to a Denso type radiator? I have both radiator fans, so buying the different fan isn't a problem. What is the difference between the two, aside from the mounting points for the fans?
