            Comments about CARQUEST Radiator:

I installed this in my 2003 Chevy Express 1500.

While out west, with the old radiator, pulling a trailer in 100 degree heat, the engine would run hot, sometimes near red-line. I would have to turn on the heater to get it cooled down. Without the trailer or with temps below 85, it ran normal. Once I got back home, I ran the Prestone Flush through it. It then ran hot all the time, even when it was only 65 degrees out. I ran the Prestone Cleaner through it. Still hot. I took the radiator out and flushed water backwards through it... all kinds of gunk still coming out of it. I let it set overnight with CLR in it. Still gunk coming out. I rinsed it for 2 more hours with water until it finally ran clean. Put it back in, tranny fluid in the water right away. Finally went and bought the new radiator. Perfect!

Moral of the story, if you have 150k miles on your radiator, don't waste time and money, just buy a new one. :)

I would have given it 5 stars, but this radiator doesn't use the OEM threaded cap. I had to buy a standard push-n-turn cap. And that cap doesn't seem to seal in the pressure. I can squeeze a hose and coolant/bubbles go into the overflow tank. Waiting for an answer under Q&A for that issue.

                • Q:

I installed this radiator on my 2003 Chevy Express 1500. The original cap didn't fit. It was threaded, the new radiator takes the push-n-turn standard type cap. I bought a standard cap, but there is no preasure on it. I can squeeze the hose (when cold) and coolant and bubbles are pushed into the overflow tank. This shouldn't happen unless there are over 16lb PSI, should it? So my question is, which cap should I be using?
