Radiators are pretty much standard issue, they perform as needed or they don't . This was a simple direct replacement that saved me a lot of money and running around.

This radiator was improperly manufactured. The top bar above the cooling fins was assembled 180 degrees off, puting the shroud mounting holes on the top in the front of the radiator instead of the rear top. When you install it, you must drill your own hole for the factory shroud to work. If the bar at the top had been rotated 180 degrees horizontally for assembly, the radiator would be okay out of the box. I returned it to the store, and we opened another box with the same model radiator, and we had the same results, improper manufacture!! A yellow sticky tag said to refer to the enclosed assmbly instructions that were supposed to be included in the box, but they were not. On the second radiator, there was also a orange sticky tag talking about the warranty, and to use fresh coolant in the new radiator in order not to void the warranty, and it also refered to a web site for assmebly guidelines at [@]. It turns out that the website doesn't exist!!

Comments about CARQUEST Radiator:

Had the same issues as others with the top mounting hole being a slot rather than a hole. At least the slot was on the correct side LOL! It was a 10 second fix to ream it out a little - annoying on a brand new part though! My car is a manual transmission so I didn't need to deal with the tranny cooler lines. I too put 1/4" plugs where the lines would have been just to keep debris and critters out of two holes in my brand new radiator. BE WARNED that replacing the radiator was a piece of cake but swapping out the lower radiator hose is probably one of the hardest things to accomplish on an Escort / Tracer.

I ordered online and picked up at my local store. They gave me a radiator manufactured/distributed by A.P.D.I.(NOT REDI-RAD). It was easy to install and required no modification in my 1994 Escort LX Wagon.

easy to install but needs to clean out before installing it because there was packing foam in the radiator. I had to fish it out with tweezers and hope I got it all... time will tell but it was a good radiator to do in the dark.

            Comments about CARQUEST Radiator:

The two transmission cooler lines hold transmission fluid- NOT radiator coolant, It is a built-in separate cooler for the tranny, so that on manual transmissions it's chamber need not be covered with 1/4" plugs as stated in another review. (This is described vaguely on another parts store site) And it isn't clear just how much radiator is dedicated to the tranny fluid, or if it's just the side chamber, next to the heated coolant (why then?) and obviously the fluid needs to be topped off again after the new radiator is installed on an automatic tranny.
Haven't done it yet- the lower radiator hose remains a challenge after spending about 15 minutes getting the rest of the old one unhooked- I hate these Ford squeeze clamps, and will replace with screw worm clamps. Plan to raise the front end to get at it better.
Meanwhile, I now have the new radiator and deciding whether to replace thermostat at the other end of the upper hose, which I may replace too.
Probably will, but more work and expense, and it's all stuck now under the ignition. Can't even see the top side of the bottom hose it's so buried under the alternator and AC. Oh well. The better idea people among us are a threat to untruth, and that's what counts in the age of marketing, where the mechanic is the least of concern, except for the USED car buyer, and except at Ford website where they will graciously answer questions... for $29 a pop!

              Comments about CARQUEST Radiator:

The price is good, you can usually save a lot more money by buying it online. The installation was fairly straightforward. You will need to take the three clips off your old radiator to use on the new radiator. All the holes line up, however, the top bezel has a couple of slotted holes to where you cannot screw in the one top screw that holds the fan to the radiator. I drilled it out really quick and the rest of the installation went smooth. I am not a mechanic, just a do it yourselver. I'd consider the install to be a 3/10 in difficulty.

Mounting holes were located in the correct position but one had to be enlarged to complete the installation. Otherwise installation is as easy as any can be for this item.

Why should I buy this after reading the reviews on this radiator now when all the reviews state that you have to modify it in order for it to fit correctly with factory parts when this states it's and exact fit now and on the warranty now I clicked on it just for this and it tells me nothing about the warranty of this part at all but to refer to your store for warranty information now if that's the case why put the warranty add right on the side of the radiator now if it doesn't give you any information about the warranty on it, threw reviews everyone had to drill holes and make slots in order to fit the radiator in to the car and attach the remaining parts that go on the radiator like fan srcrod now and doesn't come with plugs or tactile cap at all, dam before when you buy a new radiator it came with a new cap and was a perfect fit. Your ite states it is but after all reviews I read it's not, this states it meets or exceeds oem parts now, well if that was true, no mods needed

                    A:

Because Ford made minimal changes to the Escort radiator design from 1991-2002, the Ready-Rad Radiator (Part No. 431242) radiator is designed to fit multiple years. During this time, there were slight changes made to the mounting in this vehicle and this is attributed to the slight modification that is involved when installing.

Just bought this rad, I need to know best position to mount the temperature sensor tube of the Imperial termostatic fan control so it picks up the area of most heat. What area of rad is used for coolant and what area for transimisson cooling?
