How do tell if clutch is standard or reverse rotation

Hi James, I'm happy to help you! The Fan Clutch - Heavy-Duty Truck Fan Drive - Part No. 216009 is Reverse rotation. There should be an arrow near the bi-metal spring on the face of the clutch.

  • Q:

At what point should this clutch begin to increase fan speed? Have installed on 1997 F350 7.3L and engine water temp has shown up to 208 degrees with a 203 thermostat pulling heavy load, but have yet to hear increased fan noise.
Asked on 7/4/2012 by StS from AZ

    1 answer

The fan speed is controlled by the engine RPM and the fan clutch locks up to increase air flow and this can change the sound of it as it increases air flow. If this is not happing then it is most likely the clutch fan is defective.
