Comments about CARQUEST Electric Fuel Pump:

It's a great product, better than buying the whole assembly if you don't need to. Down side is you have to pull your fuel tank, or cut a whole in your trunk floor.

Very easy to install. An extra 15 minutes of install time will save you over $100 vs buying the complete assemby. Just be very careful not to break the plastic sending unit housing when removing it from the tank.

I've heard changing the fuel pump can be tricky. Do you have any instructions for making the change on a Ford Tauras 2003?
Asked on 1/9/2013 by Mike from Lynchburg, VA

              • CUSTOMER CARE

                A:

With reference to your query on Airtex Electric Fuel Pump - (Part No. E2314), the installation instructions follows. Empty the fuel tank, raise up the front of the car and secure it on jack stands. Chock the back wheels to prevent any movement. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Open the trunk and disconnect the electrical connector to disable the fuel pump. This will also relieve the fuel pressure. Remove the fuel tank by loosening the bolts from the filter neck pipe retainer. Detach any braces that hold the filter tubes. You might need to rest the tank on another car jack and support it with some wood. Disconnect the vapor and fuel lines and detach the sending unit by hooking a small screwdriver into the tabs. Tap the lock ring on the fuel pump in a counterclockwise direction with the hammer to loosen and release it. Remove the pump assembly from the fuel tank by reaching in through the opening, squeezing the tabs together to unhooking it. Take off the old lock ring gasket, as this will need replacing with the new pump. Remove the fuel pump mounting screws and release the fuel pump from the car. Once you have it totally removed, proceed to install the new pump in the exact way you removed the old one. All steps are in reverse, so work backward with the steps you used to take it off. For further assistance, please feel free to call us at 1-877-238-2623 or visit your nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our representatives would be more than happy to assist you.

                A:

With reference to your query on Airtex Electric Fuel Pump - (Part No. E2314), the installation instructions are follows. Open the hood and locate the fuel filter. It should be located on the right rear frame rail. Place the catch pan under the fuel filter. Locate the fuel rail and the fuel injection system. Locate the Schrader valve on the fuel rail and release the fuel pressure with the tip of the screwdriver. Alternatively, you can locate the fuse inside the car under the dash for the fuel filter. Pull it, and turn the ignition key to the "on" position. Attempt to start the vehicle and let it idle until it stalls out. This will relive pressure from the system. Remove the retaining clips from the hoses holding the fuel filter in place with the pliers. Slide the fuel filter out of the mounting bracket and detach the connecting hoses. Fuel will leak from the hoses. Make sure the fuel is being caught by the catch pan. Insert the new fuel filter and and attach the hoses. Replace the retaining clips. Put the fuel filter fuse back in if you took it out and start the car. Check to make sure the idle speed normalizes and that the fuel system pressurizes.

                A:

With reference to this Airtex Electric Fuel Pump - part# E2314, the actual electric fuel pump is in the tank on the right side. The tank is directly below the rear seat. If you remove the seat bottom you will find a 6 inch or so cover. Under the cover there is a plastic, threaded collar that locks the fuel pump into the tank. The driver's side also has a pump, but it works only with venturi effect from the electric pump on the other side. This pump is used to equalize the fuel level from left to right. The drive shaft tunnel prevents all but the very top of the tank from communicating left to right. Remove and discard the fuel pump module gasket.
To install: Install the fuel pump module and crossover tubes as an assembly. Attaching the non-conductive material to the crossover tubes, pull the crossover tubes through the gas tank to install the fuel pump module.
