Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

Even though this website spec'd this part for my 2003 Jetta, manual trans, alum wheels, it was not even close. The splines were different, and it was too long. Mistakes happen, but apparently this is a common complaint with this part SO FIX YOUR DATABASE.

Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

Bought and installed this axle in April 2013, by September it was vibrating under load. Vibration disappeared and returned again in December. Loud clicking and vibrations under load. Makes the entire car wobble side to side. Appears that the inner cv joint is failing. Less than 20k miles on unit.

First axle I was issued was missing some critical componants, looked as if someone purchased axle and returned it and lost some hardware. Took axle back to store and they promptly exchanged it for an axle that looked better quality. Happy with my purchase.

        • Q:

What specific tools do I need to remove and replace this axle? What mm socket for large nut? and are there any other special sockets needed? (torx? hex? and sizes?) Thank you!
Asked on 6/6/2014 by Jerazmus from wareham, MA

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

I'm happy to help, Jerazmus! The spindle nut for your Volkswagen has a 31mm hex head. The thread size is 1.5mm and the inside diameter is 18.5mm. The additional tools that may be required will depend generally depend on the vehicle that is being worked on. Any other special tools required may be vehicle dependent. I suggest purchasing a repair manual for your vehicle for specific removal an installation instructions, including torque specifications.

Please make sure to enter your vehicle's year, make, model and engine size when looking for parts for your vehicle to ensure a proper fit.
