Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

This cv shaft was for a 1991 Geo Prizm aut/trans. replaced the OEM shaft which had torn boots and a noticeable "clicking" when making a turn.I did both sides but this r/s was much easier.I had more room in front of the inside joint to pry against. This is really a 2 person job.The shaft will come out easier if a helper will push inward on the shaft, holding it straight while the other person uses a large pry bar to "push it out."

Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

Overall I was quite pleased with this product which apparently was made in China. It was nicely made and seemed to be a great value. I did notice two slight negative aspects. My original 1989 Toyota Corolla axle assembly had a slight bevel machined on the end of the shoulder that fits into the bearing at the transmission. The new one did not have this bevel and I felt this made it more difficult to get it started into the bearing. Also the grooves and ridges in the joint housing were very shallow, not nearly as deep as the ones on the original and this made it much more difficult to keep a drift or screwdriver tip in the groove to drive the inner shaft into the transaxle bearing. I used one of the old style "100 year" screwdrivers but I had to use a very heavy hammer to get enough force to drive it in. My service manuals said to tap gently but I found it takes more than gentle taps on mine to drive it into the bearing. I was working by myself and I do believe it would defrinitely help if two people worked at the job of getting the shaft started into the transaxle bearing, one to keep it lined up and one to hammer it in.
