Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

How you use the product:
The description is wrong: It states that it includes a nut or other connecting hardware, it does not.

The Chevy Tracker does not use a nut it uses an extra thick (not off-the-shelf) snap-ring, which Chevy no longer supplies.

There is not a snap-ring included with this axle, so take great care to remove yours without bending, twisting or stretching it - you are going to need it later.

Things that aren't so great about it:
1) The first one I got had the same issue someone else commented on - it was too large at the back of the hub. But, inconvenience aside, the exchange was easy enough and the second one went right in.

2) Longevity. The part should easily last much more than two or three years. The original one lasted 12 years. The ones purchased from Advance will last 2.5~3 years. (The outer boots crack, degrade and fail rapidly.

3) This company's warranty policy. There is a limited lifetime warranty on this part but the part needs to fail in under two years if you hope to use it.

a. Your receipt will fade in about a year.
b. Your purchase information will be deleted from the database at the store -automatically- after two years.
c. Advance has no central database of purchases.
d. Calling Advance Auto (540-362-4911) and asking them to help with locating the purchase will only result in further frustration. They are polite and professional but will tell you they need a few more days, each time you call, until you give up.
e. It is less stressful to purchase a replacement part then it is to replace it under warranty.

First one I got had the same issue someone else commented on - it was too large at the back of the hub. But, inconvenience aside, the exchange was easy enough, and the second one went right in.

Lastly, do not trust this company's warranty policy. There is a limited lifetime warranty on this part and the part should easily last two years or more. Mine lasted 2.5~3 years.

Your receipt will fade to nothing in about a year. Your warranty is ONLY tracked at the store where it was purchased. The store's software automatically deletes purchases over two years old.

The lifetime of any warranty at Advance Auto is two years. After that there is no proof of purchase and you will have to pay full price again.

I called Advance Auto and asked them to help with locating the purchase and warranty. They were polite and professional, but every time I call they still need a few more days... until I stopped calling. They are supposed to contact me when they find it.

After giving up I was able to order it from a competitor, wait for it to come in, install it, and get credited back for the core charge without ever getting that call.

Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

This axle slipped right into my 99 Tracker with ease, and it fit perfectly. I only had to remove the axle nut, and 3 bolts on the flange. With car on jack stands positioned under the frame, the control arm drops enough to do this replacement without removing any steering/suspension parts.

The one part of this axle that goes into the back of the hub was a bigger diameter than it should've been, and the car was on the rack, and you guys didnt have anymore at the store. I understand things happen, but the factory needs to be checking things better.

Replacing a CV axle is actually quite simple. If you need further help with this project, I recommned getting a repair manual for your vehicle. It will be able to help you along with your project.
