This was a replacement for a blown axle on my wife's Honda Civic. It was more cost-effective to simply replace the entire assembly, as the joint was beyond repair. There wasn't any problem with the product; it was a great price, simple to install, readily available at a nearby store, and an exact fit for the OEM component. I've put a few thousand miles on it since replacement, and it performs to standard. The boots seem sturdy enough to last for another 100k (only see rain here in Florida)

This is a better alternative to those that require "core charges", because scrap metal pays.

Manufactured too short, disengaged and left car stranded

Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

The axle disengaged from the transmission after half a mile, leaving the vehicle stranded requiring towing. I forgot to check the length side-by-side originally, but after getting it out, realized it was an inch too short. If you buy this compare length, fully compressed, flange to flange. But honestly, if they messed this up, can the joints themselves be trusted?

I wouldn't buy this product again if you paid for it. I try several times to get the transmission side to lock into the splines with no luck. Finally took the lock ring off and it went right in. Looked at the groove cut in the new one verus the old one. The old one was cut alot deeper and had no problem being put back in. Got the part swapped at local store which appeared to be right and still had to file the lock ring to fit in transmission. Advance Auto won't get my business anymore.

Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

I initially installed a remanufactured shaft & had a intermittent vibration (severe) I finally traced it to the shaft that was only 3 months old. This new shaft was priced about the same as a remanufactured shaft. I wish I had installed this new one the first time I would have saved time & money! I initially thought that the axle I purchased was an exchange unit and I actually brought the old axle into the store. But then I was told by the courteous parts representative that I did not need the core because this unit was not remanufactured.

I bought this because it was the only one on Advance's site that showed a balancer ring in the image, but it didn't have one when I got home and opened the package. If I knew this I would have just bought the cheaper one. I checked I would recommend to a friend because it is what it is, an economy axle.

Hi Turk, glad to assist you! The CV shafts (usually the longer shaft) may feature a rubber damper on the main shaft, between the inner and outer joints. The purpose of this dynamic damper is to absorb vibrational forces (balance and harmonics). To check the exact fit application for the ToughOne New CV Axle Shaft Assembly (Part No. NCV36516), please provide us the year, make, model and engine size of your vehicle.

No, CV axle has nothing to do with the car idling. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.
