Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

These are direct-fit, identical to the OEM axles. The boots on my original axles had recently split and so they hadn't expelled the grease and damaged the joints yet, but anybody that has ever done the messy boot replacement job will appreciate the labor savings of just putting in a new axle for not a whole lot more money. Add in the limited lifetime warranty and it's an easy decision.

I'm a decent "driveway mechanic," but I've never done one of these before. Any special tools needed? Pullers and such? If so, can they be rented at AAP stores? My mechanic wants $450 for this job and that is just too much. Thanks.
