Since some of the comments about this axle said it wasn't very good, I was hesitant to buy it, but I decided to take a chance on it. The first thing I did was to check the boots to see if they were of poor quality or were too short as described in other reviews. I opened the box in the store and they looked fine to me. I took it home and removed my old axle, then checked the splines, on both ends, and then the threads on the outer side; everything looked just like the original axle. I installed the new axle without any problems and then took the car for a test drive. This axle works as well as an axle can work. My advice is to use this part; I doubt if you have any problems. Advance is the only auto parts chain that lists the customers' reviews, so I guess they leave themselves open to poor reviews where Pep Boys, O'reilly, AutoZone, and my other local parts choices don't.

What junk! I have replaced several drive shafts in several front wheel drive cars, so I am no rookie. After going through the trouble of replacing the axle in my teenage son's car, the new one bound up in a week and was much worse than the one I took out. Seriously, it was dangerous. Do not buy this! I would have given no stars if it would have let me.

Torn boot and leaking grease first day

Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

Needed new axles for my front end R&R on my 2003 Chevy Venture FWD. Picked up a set of these axles. First impression is that the axles look reasonable. Both axles fit as described. I replaced both oil seals while I was at it, lubricated them and the axles and snapped into place as expected.
On the first day driving the van, the outer CV boot on the driver's side has already split and is leaking grease.
This is disappointing as I will need to remove it, swap it, and top off the transmission fluid again.

Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

Per the description, the CV axles were described to be an exact fit for my 2001 Buick Century Custom. I took the old OE CV axles out and put the new "exact fit" axles in. However, the new "exact fit" ones didn't fit snugly like the original axles did; on either side. There was a very slight tolerance difference that allowed the axles to make make a very slight movement and thus a clunking-type noise when the car was driven. I removed the new "exact fit" CV axles, put the old OE axles back in. The old axles fit snugly and the clunking-type noise stopped when the car was driven. Ended up buying new CV axles from different distributor; they cost more but they fit perfectly. Returning them was easy as the staff was highly professional. The car subsequently drives fine with no noises.

Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

Considering that my 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP was having MAJOR suspension issues, this axle has been one of the two items to fix my issues suspension wise and bring the car back to the point it was at before! :D .. It took me about a day to do the whole job of replacing the axle and wheel bearing from start to finish including breaks because of heat and excessive sweat. Other than that, I haven't had any problems with this part and so far seems to have fixed my problems. My car is once again SAFE for the road!

I replaced the Driver side CV axle on my 2000 Chevy venture with this one. I was sure it was done correctly but the end that inserts into the tramsition come out about 1 to 2 inches while dirving it and it lost all the trans fluid.... i put / pushed the axle back in and refilled the trans fluid but its leaking. Just like when I 1st put it in, I checked by tugging on it to make sure the retaining clip was clicked in. My mechanic says I should replace the axle again and the seal..... Does the seal come with this part or need to be purchased seperately? also, since the axle came out... should I take it back out and get it exchanged.... sounds like the retaining clip is faulty if it was able to come back out.

put a small crow bar type bar with a curved end between the trans and back of cv shaft. Put pressure against the bar and give ot a bit of a whack with your hand ( not a hammer)it will just pop off. Try to brace the bar against a beefy part of trans. To put back on just line up splines and give it a sharp push and it pops back on.
