I purchased this online and never having done this type of mechanical work was a little scared of maybe screwing up something, but low and behold picked up the cv joints at an Advance store at which I normally shop at and the entire process was actually pretty cool. The removal of the old cv joints was a bogger but I keep with it until i got them off. I would recommend anyone with any mechanical aptitude to do this as you save yourself a few hundred dollars. And shopping online with Advance is really quite easy maybe better than shopping in the store.

I have replaced CV Axle Shafts in several vehicles. This particular unit is not manufactured correctly. There are only three bellows on the outboard boot, and there should be five. Therefore the boot is too ridgid -- it can't flex well enough when going around turns, so it pulls-off the joint. This exposes the joint to dirt and all the grease flys out. Eventually the joint fails, and you find yourself stranded, and needing to repeat the job again. Do not purchase this unit.

I needed this part ASAP. I was able to order online and pick up in the store same day. The online discount was nice but if I could have waited a few days I could have got this same part online at another place for about half the cost.

Ordered 2 CV axles from the independent jobber parts house and got a call from the shop and they said wrong parts. I pre-ordered online s axles from Advanced picked them up on the way to the transmission shop and they were the correct axles. Advanced Auto Parts online ordering with their discounts and other online discount code = jobber -shop price. During my day as a tech we replaced CV bots and joints end. Parts have changed. I wish we can pay at store with cash vs credit cards .

I have been to 6 different auto part stores and cannot find an axle with the right boots. Each store says that it doesn't matter something else must be wrong but when I put my old axle back in, I have no problem with the inner boot colapsing. This is ridiculous. I'm at my wits end trying to find the right part. Don't waste your time or money. I have an 07 Chevy Impala and it won't work. As soon as I pulled out my driveway, the boot broke away and grease is everywhere. This is my fifth time and I still don't have the right part.

Happy to help you with your question Dave! This CV axle does not come with the ABS ring. It can be installed on a vehicle with abs granted it is an exact fit but it may trigger a trouble code. For more information we will need the vehicle year make and model.

                Hi,
I am building a car as a university project. I will need a very short CV axle. Is it possible to get a CV axle that is 6 inches in length from end to end of CV joints ? The axle would have to transmit 300Nm of torque at the wheels.

                Thanks.

                  A:

Good question, Avik! I'm not aware of any vehicles that would have a CV axle that short in length. Since this is a specialized part, I recommend checking with your local store for the recommendation of a local machine shop that may be able to build one for you.

Haynes manual....they make one for every car. Not terribly difficult but it will depend on the car. On mine I just removed the caliper and rotor (you will need an air gun with the proper nut size for your hub) Then I removed the strut, and wiggled the shaft out. Be careful not to pull too hard so that it leaves one half in the tranny, cause then its a pain to get out. Make sure to pull from the transmission so that doesn't happen.
