Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

The machined teeth on the end of the CV half shaft gave me resistance installing into the differential. The teeth are not the same as on the OEM part that was removed.

Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

This worked great and was easy to install. the price was a good price and well worth the money. The service guy at the auto store was very helpfull finding the right priced cvc joint. he was also very helpfull with hints about getting the old one out and tips on getting the new one in. it is great when you have a sales man that can help and can discribe the project you are getting into before you start. it saved alot of time in the end knowing some of the tricks before the start. over all this product was not bad to install and seams to work great.

Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

This is not what I call a "want item", just something that was needed to repair the truck. The main things are that it's the right part, has a decent warranty, and was in stock at the store with a reasonable price.

Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

Once you have the hub off, this is an easy install. The key is getting the hub off. I recommend a cheater bar (4-6 foot piece of hollow pipe you put your wrench inside of and use the pipe as leverage. I initially used a 650lbs impact gun to try to take off the hub bolts and they wouldn't budge. Cheater bar took them off in as soon as I applied pressure.).

            A:

Great question, Bob! I have replaced CV Axles before. The job itself didn't seem too difficult, but it is time consuming. You will need to remove your spindle nut (Part No. 05177 or Part No. 615-095 for distorted thread) and purchase a new one since they normally are 1 time use. You'll also need to pull the brakes off and disconnect the ball joints and tie rod end and remove the spindle. To remove the spindle, you may need a hub puller. Your local Advance Auto Parts store may be able to loan you the tool or you can purchase one (Part No. OTC7394) At that point you should be able to access the CV Axle to remove it. I see you're from a climate similar to ours, many of the parts will be difficult to separate so make sure you have plenty of rust penetrant (such as WD-40 Specialist Part No. 300004) and pneumatic tools help quite a bit as well. For detailed instructions of the job I recommend a repair manual, Haynes Part No. 24071.
