I have installed several timing chains and belts on dual over head engines. With great sucess but this particualr kit is not worth buying. After several attempts I finally decided the that the crank gear and the chain would not mesh and it skipped a tooth when you cranked the engine over by hand. I went to the dealer ship and ordered the factory set went on first try. Car is running great. "Service tip" when you crank the engine over buy hand the timing marks on the chain do not line back up on the marks just make sure that the int pully and the exh. pulley as well as the crank gear mark are in the correct location the discolered links are for set up only. I returned the part at my local Advance with no problems. I will continue to shop Advance just not happy with this product lost alot of time and caused alot of agervasion.

This manufacturer doesn't stand by their product.I had kit installed in April and it lasted 7 months. Then guide broke throwing timing off and causing all the intake valves to get slammed and bent. Now manufacturer is denying claim now the 2000 bucks in damage to engine is on me.if I were you go to another parts store because advanced sells junk and they don't care if we get the short end.

I have done this job on 7 different cars never had a problem till this kit showed up. we put it on two times and the tensioner never worked. we did balance shaft kit also. spend the money buy a OEM kit or just a better One. wish Advance would help on some labor or S.A. Gear had a very mad customer. this kit was on the car for a week then came back with same noise.
Advance need to change this brand.

Tensioner failed 5,000 miles after installation.
Result 8 bent intake valves. Only warranty is replace the tensioner. The damaged valves are on me.
DO NOT BUY THIS SET. The cost to repair the damage is far more than the money you saved buying this kit. Ecotec-Great Engine, Tensioner-Not So Great

The tensioner failed in less than 10,000 miles and 9 months. Broke 2 rocker arms. They will not help with the repairs to the damaged engine. they did replace the tensioner. Which i will not use anyways because of the quality. This is a reacuring problem. Will not buy from advance auto parts any more they offered no help!

                    A:

In an interference engine, the position of the piston at the top of its stroke will occupy the same physical space that the open valves do whilst the piston is at the bottom of its stroke. It's important to know if your engine is an interference engine because if the timing belt breaks, at least one set of valves will stop in the open position and the momentum of the engine will ram the piston in that cylinder up into the valves requiring a very expensive engine repair or replacement. In a non-interference engine, the valves do not occupy any space that the piston could move into, so if your timing belt snaps on one of these engines, in 99% of cases you won't suffer any valve damage because the piston cannot physically touch the open valves. That is the technical explanation of why its important to get your timing belt changed at the manufacturer-specified mileage.

Yes, the 2.2 liter Saturn is a interference engine.
