        A:

The recommended procedure is to bolt the plate to the flywheel (while lining up the disk), place the bearing on the transmission spindle and align the forks, and when the trans and engine pull together, the bearing is supposed to snap on the plate. An alternate way of assembly is to snap the bearing on to the pressure plate, bolt the plate up to the flywheel, and as you bring the trans up to the motor, you must tease the forks to fit on to the bearing just so. Remember, the forks have to fit around the bearing. The forks have to be positioned on the trans side of the bearing, not the plate side. If you have got the forks on the plate side, then it seems that the forks will pull the bearing off the plate springs when you let off the clutch. If the forks are on the trans side, then there is nothing to pull the bearing off the springs.
