Comments about CARQUEST Clutch New Clutch Set:

I purchased this product online, I was able to use a coupon code and speed perks reward to add to my savings. Making the purchase was very simple and was ready for pickup in less than 20 minutes. I bought this clutch for my 2001 Ford Mustang Standard as a replacement. The car has 215k miles, new clutch makes shifting seamless. Also had another engine install so the replacement clutch was a no brainer. The clutch provides smooth shifting, seems very durable. I use this vehicle is a daily driver.

Comments about CARQUEST Clutch New Clutch Set:

This is for a daily driver. Oem style clutch. It is by no means a performance clutch. I am not saying it is a bad product, but if you are going to be doing burnouts and lots of hard shifts, get a better throw out bearing. The clutch it self is very nice, nice firm grabbing, no slipping. Make sure to baby the car during break in or else the clutch'a life will be cut, perhaps in half. Resist the urges. Easy and straightforward install, just some tough bolts.

Comments about CARQUEST Clutch New Clutch Set:

I ordered the clutch kit online and picked it up at my local store. When I arrived at the store the order had been pulled from their inventory and was waiting on the shelf just behind the parts counter. After opening the box I found that the throw out bearing, clutch disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing and a clutch alignment tool were all included and were all in good condition and were all packaged individually. I then had the clerk look up what type of transmission fluid I would need which he quickly got for me as well as a can of parts cleaner. The clerk then rang my additional items up. I can say that it was an overall good experience.

Comments about CARQUEST Clutch New Clutch Set:

This was for a 2000 Ford Mustang 3.8. If you are changing flywheels too, like I did, be very careful. In the middle of the 2000 model year, Ford switched the 3.8 from being externally balanced to internally balanced. The best way to tell is to look at the base of the vibration damper right next to the engine. If the weighted ring there has the same amount of metal all of the way around, then you are internally balanced. If the weighted ring has cutouts to reduce the amount of metal anywhere around the ring, then you are externally balanced. Both internally and externally balanced flywheels will bolt onto the same engine, but the bolt pattern is staggered so the flywheel will only go on one way.

You might want to order a new release bearing fork as well. After 100,000 miles, the springs on the back of the fork that pull the throwout bearing back wear mighty thin.

Now for the review. The only complaint I had was that the pilot tool didn't have the friction plate lined up well enough to allow me to mate up the transmission without using the bolts to pull it in, which is considered a no-no. Other than that, installation was a breeze. Be sure to evenly tighten down the pressure plate instead of torqueing each bolt one at a time to spec.

Now for driving. The clutch that came out was actually fine, it was the throwout bearing that had disintegrated into three pieces. The original clutch must have been high performance. Basically, you hovered the clutch pedal at it's sweet spot, thought about letting out the clutch, and without conciously moving your foot, the car would take off. Not a very forgiving clutch. It also made pressing down on the clutch pedal feel like you were drawing a compound bow, hard work at first, but then it suddenly got easier and your foot practically smashed into the floor.

This new clutch is different, better. It has a smooth pressure all of the way thru the clutch pedal range. And there is no "sweet spot". Except for a bit at the top and a bit at the bottom of the clutch pedal travel, you wind up getting different degrees of engagement thru the whole range. This clutch is definitely more forgiving than the last clutch. It makes driving the car more pleasurable.

Comments about CARQUEST Clutch New Clutch Set:

Make sure to have the right flywheel on replacing both clutch and flywheel. In 2000 ford made changes to the balancing of the motor. There is internal and external flywheels and it will make a huge difference. I was given the wrong flywheel twice before figuring out the parts store was giving me the wrong one. It was a competitor of Advance. Put both flywheel and clutch by Perfection in and we are good to go.

                A:

Hi Tracer, great question! Replacing the clutch depends on the skill level of whoever is removing or replacing the part. Some may have a harder time than others who have experience. I would recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair and replace specific parts or you may also get assistance from a certified mechanic in order to avoid intermittence.

                A:

Installing a clutch can be difficult if you do not have the correct tools. For the best help, I recommend sourcing out a repair manual for your car. This manual should be able to give you step by step instructions on how to replace your clutch.
