Does it matter which way the seal in the pilot bearing is facing?

From when I replaced the pilot bearing on a project car of mine, it did not matter which way it faced. For step by step instructions on how to do this job, I recommend that you go into your local Advance Auto Parts and pick up a repair manual if available for your vehicle.
