If timing chain has skipped a tooth, the car will run like crap. you would also hear rattling coming from timing chain area as chain is loose and stretched for it to jump a tooth. more likely to have lost a tooth off one of the timing gears. also u will not be able to time the engine correctly in this condition.

      • Q:

Does a 2000 Dodge intrepid with a 2.7 liter engine use 3 or 4 timing chains? It appears as if each head uses a single chain to link the dual cams together and that at least one "master Chain" is used to drive the cams on each head from the main drive sprocket off of the Crannk Shaft. I am trying to determine if I need to order 2 of the longer chains from the main crank to head(S) or just one.

        Thanks
        Dan

this motor should have 1 timing chain from the crank up to the bigger gears on the intake side of the cams. and then there is 1 smaller chain for each head that controls ur intake and exhaust cam.

      • Q:

Does this single chain service both heads or does the vehicle require a total of 4 chains 1 for each dual cam on each head and 1 for each head from the crank? It appears as this vehicle requires either 3 or 4 chains can you eloborate on that?
