This thermostat fit my 2001 Saturn 1.9L engine perfectly. No trimming of the tabs necessary. I wonder if others got the wrong part in their box. Or, perhaps quality control varies. Mine fit perfectly. Used a big socket to compress the spring. Seems to work fine. Dealer wanted [$] for this part. Not sure if it would actually be the German-made version anymore, but for [$] I decided to go with the Advance part. Didn't come with the O-ring gasket, $1.09 extra. But when I was done with the job, I found a fresh O-ring in the bottom of my trash box. Strange. Maybe there WAS an O-ring in the thermostat box, and it fell out? In any case, I used the $1.09 gasket and have no leaks.

It's a thermostat ... What performance enhancement should I be looking for exactly? Hard to know after driving my car for a week with it if there have been any improvements. My car has 122K miles on it and it had never been replaced. It was hard to tell if the old thermostat was broken. One annoying thing I noticed is that the ring gasket didn't really fit too well in the groove of the pipe connected to the thermostat. Also, I thought that Stant (a U.S. company that's been around for 100 years) would naturally be using domestic parts, but instead has outsourced its product production to China. I would have rather supported U.S. manufacturing.

Comments about CARQUEST Caps and Stats Thermostat, 188 Degrees Fahrenheit:

Would not fit my 2000 Saturn SW2. The pin at the bottom was too long for the housing it fits into. All were the same at Advanced. Could be my housing was not original so I can't say it was Advanced fault. Went elsewhere and the housing came with the thermostadt which solved the issue.

Old thermostat was stuck in the open position, not allowing the engine to warm up. Changing the thermostat solved the problem. All is good now.

Was only rated at 188 degrees on the box even though it is supposed to be 195. Oh well what is 7 degrees amongst friends. It does fit well and does include the cardboard tube/tool for installation into the housing. It also included a new thermostat housing o-ring seal. I just bought another one yesterday to install in my other Saturn.

Will fit properly only in original housing. It won't fit in an aftermarket housing that came with some aftermarket 'stats.
