I bought and installed this thermostat along with a new water pump. After everythign was buttoned back up and the system refilled, I let the engine reach operating temperature. It runs exactly the same temperature as the OE stat allowed. It also includes a new o-ring type seal so you don't need to buy it separately.

This part DOES NOT FIT 04 yukon xl denali. Found that out after ripping the whole thing apart. Don't waste your time, just get the actual motorad or duralast one.

Poor quality

Comments about CARQUEST Caps and Stats Thermostat, 186 Degrees Fahrenheit:

This is possibly the worst thermostat I have purchased. It opened way too soon and would not regulate engine temperature. No makers mark on the item anywhere. It is a typical low quality thermostat shaped trinket that is made in China.

I bought this part after checking my repair manual, and the website, they both said that this was the right part for my 04' chevy 2500hd, and they were wrong, my truck uses a regular thermostat, not this one.

This item came up as an exact fit for 2005 5.3 1500 Silverado-it does not fit the GM factory pump.
There is another product review indicating it fits earlier models, only. I wish I had seen that review instead of assuming the search results were correct.

I replaced a water pump on a 2003 Chevy Silverado with a 4.8L engine. I installed a new thermostat while I was at it and it was a fast and easy swap. Housing is installed onto water pump with a new o-ring which is inluded. No leaks at startup and seems to be working fine.

Hi Wayne, without the presence of your vehicle we would not be able to properly diagnose it, nor provide you with a 100% answer. I would suggest that you take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.

I'm happy to help, Me! To see additional fitment details, check in the Description tab under the Product Application(s) heading when your vehicle information is entered into the website. This Stant 186 Degree Thermostat (Part No. 14298) includes the outlet assembly and seal. It is indicated to fit the 2004 GMC Yukon Denali 6.0L V8 with the OE and most aftermarket water pumps. The other Stant Thermostat (Part No. 14948) is a heavy duty thermostat and will fit the vehicle with the GM replacement water pump. It is also a 186 degree thermostat.

I asked a question yesterday about replacing the the thermostat on a 2005 Chevy Silverado K1500 4 x 4 (not heavy duty) 5.3L V-8 standard gas. I got this answer from you:

So answers are above. Looks to me thermostat is attached to the lower radiator hose. Mine looks like it has two bolts but the replacement picture looks like 3 bolts? does the lower radiator hose attach to the thermostat? Should be easy enough to get at and remove and replace anything I need to worry about other than fluid coming out with the lower hose?

Hi val, glad to assist you! I researched and found that this thermostat is an ideal part for your 2005 Chevy Silverado K1500. Follow the lower radiator hose to the water pump and it will clamp onto the thermostat housing. Remove the two bolts on it and you will see the thermostat .But don't forget to drain the antifreeze first.
