Comments about CARQUEST Caps and Stats Thermostat, 170 Degrees Fahrenheit:

This model of thermostat for subarus is the worst choice. It is not an exact fit, as is smaller than
OEM. Stant is the cheapest thermo manufacturer, and cheap is what this is. Have seen these thermos in subarus cause headgasket failure. For only few $ more can get OEM. If unable to get OEM the 2nd best choice is Beck, but that is 2X as much as OEM.

Comments about CARQUEST Caps and Stats Thermostat, 170 Degrees Fahrenheit:

I should have done my homework before I purchased this. This product did not function in my car. I did test it in boiling water, and the thermostat does function, just not in my car. I ended up with the Beck/Arnley tstat and it works great. There is a difference in size of about 1/3 between the two. I was a little shocked actually. Anyhow steer clear of this product. It is most definitely worth the extra 20$.

Used it on my 1996 Legacy. It makes the car overheats. I drilled out the valve, re-installed it and confirmed that this new thermostat made it iverheat. It is not well designed for Subaru.

Comments about CARQUEST Caps and Stats Thermostat, 170 Degrees Fahrenheit:

I put a new water pump and timing belt in my 2003 WRX, so i replaced it with this Stant. I was very hesitant on putting it in, in the first place. It was way cheaper looking than the OEM one and didnt fit the gasket perfect. On the test drive i noticed it was running a little cooler and if i would ride the RPM's in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, i noticed the car would get cooler. The third day i drove the car it wouldn't even heat up. It didnt even last 20 miles. I wish i would have read the other reviews before i bought it and put the money towards a better quality one. I might just put the old one back in.

another poor quality piece from stant

Comments about CARQUEST Caps and Stats Thermostat, 170 Degrees Fahrenheit:

I replaced this a few thousand miles ago when I did my timing belt on my Impreza RS. The stant piece was significantly cheaper looking and smaller than the OEM unit, but I still hesitantly installed it. Now my car warms up slower, and the temp fluctuates with the head on, sometimes dropping below the opening temp. And I even got a check engine light saying the thermostat was not operating correctly.

I will be removing this and replacing with a higher quality piece preferably not made by stant which I've had problems with before. advance should really carry other brands...

I put one of this brand one and a half year ago and it has just failed. Something so simple should last much more.
