My son owns a 2005 chevrolet trail blazer and had a trouble light that we had to look in the owners manual to figure out exactly what the sign actually meant...... From our research it indicated that the trouble sign was the gas cap wasn't securely attached. The old gas cap wasn't working properly because the over tightening device was stripped. I only shop with Advance Auto Parts and went online to see the recommendations or products that were offered as replacement parts. There were several listed and the price varied at least forty dollars but there wasn't any major differences. I chose the cheaper one and it works perfectly the only fault is that it doesn't have a drop cord attachment to the gas cap cover.

Replacement cap fit well but could use the hole at the top of the cap for attaching the lanyard.

Comments about CARQUEST Caps and Stats Plastic Gas Cap:

Cap works well as a replacement part. The cap on a 2005 Tahoe has a tie that attaches to the inside of the cap housing to keep you from dropping the cap. This cannot be used with this new cap.

would a new gas cap have anything to do with the service engine light on? I had it tested at advance auto and he said it had something to do with the sensor behind the tank. The gas cap is loose

                              A:

Hi V, good question! If the fuel cap is loose or cracked, fuel vapors leak out and can throw the whole fuel system off. This causes a reduction in gas mileage and increases emissions. If you get an error pointing to the gas cap it means fuel vapors are leaking out of your cap. This means the cap is either cracked or just wasn't tightened well enough. If your car isn't feeling jerky or strange when the check engine light comes on the first you should check is the gas cap. Pull over, retighten it, and take a look at the cap to see if it has any cracks in it. Continue driving and see if the check engine light turns off.
