Check Vehicle Fit

Dayco was first to develop a v-belt with the raw edge sidewall construction; which maximizes pulling power and facilitates controlled slippage around pulleys. The raw edge construction is combined with Dayco’s patented cogged top design to ensure the top performance that today’s vehicles and drivers demand. Dayco Top Cog V-Belts meet or exceed SAE J636 and J637 specifications. This Top Cog V-Belt is another Dayco product proudly made in the USA.

Product Features:
  • The Top Cog design delivers more flexibility and increases airflow around the belt, so it runs cooler and lasts longer than most competitive belts
  • Three plies of rubber impregnated fabric on the bottom of this belt delivers excellent durability, strength and resistance to dirt and other road debris that cause belt wear
  • A specially formulated treatment of the polyester cord provides the strength, stability, and reliability that are required of a premium quality v-belt
  • Made with specially formulated rubber compounds, this belt is highly resistant to extreme under hood temperatures that can cause premature damage to under engineered rubber compounds

  • Q:

This belt is to small for the air conditioning on a 1984 GMC Vandura 2500, it needs to be 60 inches.
I tried one of these and it was to small, had to put last part on edge of pulley and tapped starter to get it on & the belt flipped inside out, half of belt was on correctly & half was on upside down, had to cut belt off and get a 60 inch belt.

I'm happy to help, Sherman! It looks like this Dayco Top Cog V-Belt (Part No. 15590) is used on both the 4.1L L6 and 5.0L V8 engine found in the 1984 GMC Vandura. I'm sure this was a difficult situation. This belt has an effective length of 59 inches, an outside circumference of 59.57 inches and an inside circumference of 58.81 inches.

I also checked the competitor's belts for your vehicle and they are also listed as 59 inch belts. Typically, on vehicles with V-belts, there will be an adjustment bolt and bracket on one of the components of the belt routing. This bolt is loosened and the belt is then routed around the pulleys. Once routed, the component with the adjustment bracket is then brought back into place and tension is put on the belt by using, most commonly, a pry bar.

There are also some vehicles that may use tensioners for the V-belts, if that is the case, make sure to relieve the tension on the v-belt. To verify that the installation is correct, there should be no more than 1/2" of slack in the belt. If that 60" belt is not the correct part for your vehicle, you may prematurely wear out the belt and, with this belt, lose some of the cooling ability of your air conditioner.
