I Have a 1998 gmc jimmy. I put this belt on and my truck developed a squeek the next day. so i replaced my idler pulley and tensioner. Still squeeled. I then pulled my pulleys off cleaned them and even sanded them for a better grip. For weeks I was pulling my hair out trying to find the noise. then i noticed that my tensioner had almost no pressure on it. and it even looked like the ribs of the belt were not all the way down into the pulleys. Being I already threw out the old belt (obvious mistake) I decided to return it and get a standard ribbed belt without the extra slices in the rib for noise reduction. before i started the car I noticed that this belt was shorter and my tensioner sat differently. squeek was gone instantly. Apparently some vehicles might not like this style belt. and it was noticeably longer. So do your homework and save your old belt until your sure this works.

Had to replace the alternator on my 04 Ford Freestar, so I grabbed a new serpentine belt while I was at it. Pay attention to the routing of the old belt. I made a diagram for myself, but there are always pictures online, GIB. Taking it off, I just grabbed the belt and pulled it to allow me to slide it off a pulley. When installing, I used an open end wrench, and a pipe that I wedged between strut and frame to hold tensioner at a point to allow for easy install of the belt. After making sure belt is on the splines properly, release tension on belt tensioner, and you should be fine. Bump the engine over before starting, to insure it's on correctly.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Poly Rib Belt:

Tried two of these on a '97 Blazer to replace worn belt. First one began squeaking not too long after installation, but I left in on, thinking it had to be another component gone bad. When I had time, I went thru various testing to try and find the source of the problem, but couldn't pinpoint a bad component or anything other than the fact that the belt was slipping (water spray-bottle trick works!). Eventually went ahead & replaced the idler pulley and tensioner since they were cheap enough to try as a shot in the dark, and would likely need replacing in the near future, anyway. No improvement.

Finally replace belt with another of the same and squeaking stopped. Great, first one must have just been a bad one, right? Nope, about a week later noise returned. Pulled the "new" belt and replaced with a Goodyear Gatorback. No noise since. Once you look at one, you see why the "Gatorbacks" are so named...textured back probably cuts down on slippage past smooth idlers; staggered "cuts" in ribs may reduce slippage on grooved pulleys, also.

The Dayco belts appear to wear OK, and MAY work fine in some applications, depending on pulley arrangement, tension, etc., but didn't on my car. Should have paid attention from the start to other reviewers recommending the Goodyear.

Installed this belt along with a tensioner and new pulley on a 99 Tahoe. Belt squeels constantly starting around 1200rpm (but not at idle). Belt alignment was fine and it's not a bearing on an accessory as belt dressing quieted the noise for a day or so. Replaced belt with another brand and now everything is fine. I would not purchase a dayco belt again.
