I replaced the tensioner and belt at the same time. I noticed that the belt oscillates front to back on the tensioner pulley, about 1/8" movement as it rotates around. The belt was routed correctly and properly seated in all the pulleys. The new tensioner was fine also. I re-installed the old belt and it ran straight and true (I wanted to replace the old belt due to age). I then re-installed this new belt and the same movement occurred. I purchased a Gates belt elsewhere and it's perfectly straight and true. I probably got a defective belt and it might not have caused any immediate problems, but I would think it would have put added stress on the pulley and belt over many miles.

These are very high quality belts, have had others shred on me, but not Dayco or Gates. Worth the few extra $'s for peace of mind. Replace when you're in there to replace other stuff anyway (idler, tensioner, etc.)

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Poly Rib Belt:

This belt is for my 2.5L Jeep with the inline 4. I have power steering AND A/C. Fit like a glove after installing the new REMY alternator. Just had to loosen the tensioner pulley enough to get the old one off, then loosen it a bit more to fit the new belt on.

Be sure to note the routing for the old belt, if possible, before removing. Most engines have a diagram showing how to do it, but mine did not. Once on, tighten it to proper spec (roughly about 1/2" of 'play' when you press on the belt). Start up, rev the engine to check for squeals, and you're done. Adjust tension if needed.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Poly Rib Belt:

I've got a 97 Jeep Wrangler and the belt had been squealing for some time but I had actually told somebody that I needed to replace it before it broke and sure enough it broke that next day.

The information isn't that clear on the belt but there are three Dayco's and this one worked for me. If you have Power Steering and Air on your Jeep, then this is the belt you will need to buy.

For some reason, even though it was the same length as the other belt, I had a tougher time trying to get it back on and that was with the tensioner all the way loose.

Once on though, this belt works great. No more noise either with or without the a/c on. The construction seems good also.
