Simple and easy to install. Perfect fit if you follow the instructions on the box. This part is better than OEM pulley so you don't need outside washer/spacer because the bearing is sealed. IF you use the washer, the pulley will NOT turn freely.

I had the same problem as two other reviewers. The ribs bind against the housing, so that when you install this, the pulley does not rotate. Also, the diameter was about 3 mm larger than spec. I went down to the local autoparts store and got a Gates pulley, which fit without binding. The car is a 2005 Buick Park Ave Ultra. I got this part on sale, a really its not worth the ten bucks to return it. Also, I bought it knowing full well that two other reviewers had problems. SO I bought my ticket and took my chances, as the saying goes.

In fairness, I also got two dayco tensioner pulleys that fit without a problem and two dayco serpentine belts which are really quiet, and I am really happy about that! I used these parts to replace the old parts on the supercharger loop (the car has 125K miles on it, but it still gets 27-31 MPG at 70 MPH, depending upon crosswind and temperature). I have 50 miles on the new serpentine loop, and will write a review of those parts after I do a 1K trip to LA and back in a couple of weeks.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Idler Pulley:

Existing pulley had melted, covering the mounting bolt with a glob of hard plastic. I removed it patr way with a pipe wrench around the remains of the pulley, and then was able to crack the plastic off and finish up with a combination wrench. Be careful when reinstalling the belt! I found out how easy it is to get a finger wedged between the fan shroud and your wrench as you release the tension. It looks like a good product overall, and the price is pretty competitive. Only time will tell how durable it is, though.

This is great way to cut costs for a tensioner assembly. If the spring assembly is operating without binding, just replace the pulley and bearing. It's considerably cheaper.

Hi Jill, glad to assist you! An idler pulley is responsible for guiding and maintaining tension with the drive belt. The drive belt also called the serpentine belt connects the engine to various components of the vehicle such as the air conditioning, power steering, and alternator.

To replace this part I would refer to a Haynes repair manual for instructions on proper replacement of the specific pulley. The Haynes repair manual can be purchased at your local Advance Auto Parts store.
