this is real steel, not plastic aftermarket junk. very easy to install, strong, runs quite, looks great. you may wanna go ahead and replace both pulleys when you have to replace one, i wound up haveing to pull belt twice. which requires a ladder on my truck. this is the heavy duty idler pulley, it cost a little more but it is not plastic,, and with the torque my motor has prefer real steel..

I installed a new serpentine belt on my 2002 F150 4.6 V8 and installed new idler and tension pulleys.
You need a 1/2" drive breaker bar at least 15"-20" long.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Idler Pulley:

Although this was not the most expensive idler pulley, it was very reasonably priced. After being told the cause of the loud groaning under the hood was due to a faulty power steering pump, we purchased a replacement PS pump only to learn that was not the problem. We were then told it had to be one of two pulleys going bad. This pulley was installed and we have now solved the problem. Since it is a new install, the quality of the product cannot be established for longevity or durability, but it certainly has met our expectations thus far.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Idler Pulley:

Seems that serpentine belt idler pulleys are a generic part that will fit lots of engines. The one on my '06 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 inline 6 engine needs quite a wide diameter depression in the front of the pulley to accommodate the stock washer. I tried a Gates 38043 from a well-known online auto parts supplier and it wouldn't work so that has to be shipped back -- there goes any price advantage of my online shopping! Not only that but, in the mean time, my Jeep was out of service because I didn't have the right pulley. So after shopping around, I found that one of my local Advance Auto Parts stores had this part in stock that really is an exact fit!

I bought this in dec 2012 and drove less than 20k miles ( 15-18k) and this has already gone bad. Very poor quality. 1 year warranty from advance auto parts didn't help either.

Hi Pops, glad to help! Sorry, without the presence of your vehicle we would not be able to properly diagnose it nor provide you with a 100% answer. I would recommend purchasing a Chilton or Haynes Repair Manual for your vehicle, not only will it explain how to replace an idler pulley, but you'll find it handy for many more projects on your vehicle.

Just installed the Dayco No Slack Idler/Tensioner Pulley.

The original Ford idler pulley has a diameter of about 91mm. The Dayco part has a reported diameter of 76mm. Though the Dayco part is listed as an exact fit for a 2000 Ford Taurus, it does not match the original Ford part specs. However, this part does fit.

Generally, new a/c compressors come with pulley. If it does not, it is always better to replace compressor with new pulley.
