this is real steel, not plastic aftermarket junk. very easy to install, strong, runs quite, looks great. you may wanna go ahead and replace both pulleys when you have to replace one, i wound up haveing to pull belt twice. which requires a ladder on my truck. this is the heavy duty idler pulley, it cost a little more but it is not plastic,, and with the torque my motor has prefer real steel..

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Idler Pulley:

Nice quality steel metal part. Essentially the same as what was originally installed from Ford. It didn't say on the box where it was manufactured but there were two labels: one on top of the other. It's possible it stated the country of origin on the mostly covered up label but only the top of the first label was visible.
The part was apparently made by Gates since the Dayco label was on top of the Gates label but this practice is somewhat common in the auto parts industry so not a big surprise.

Bought this for my 2001 Buick Regal and when I went to install the idler pulley it did not fit. Different design. Double checked the Advanced Auto webiste and the MFG website and the part number was correct and the picture of teh part looked correct. Went back to the store and had them get another one form inventory and part was the same wrong design.

You need a 1/2" drive breaker bar at least 15"-20" long.

I'm happy to help, Reed13! Remove the tension on the tension pulley with a 15mm socket or wrench by turning counter clockwise, take the belt off, remove the idler pulley with a T50 Torx bit, turning counter clockwise, replace with new pulley, use factory bolt, align the belt on all pulleys verifying that everything is correct.

Hi Pops, glad to help! Sorry, without the presence of your vehicle we would not be able to properly diagnose it nor provide you with a 100% answer. I would recommend purchasing a Chilton or Haynes Repair Manual for your vehicle, not only will it explain how to replace an idler pulley, but you'll find it handy for many more projects on your vehicle.

Just installed the Dayco No Slack Idler/Tensioner Pulley.

The original Ford idler pulley has a diameter of about 91mm. The Dayco part has a reported diameter of 76mm. Though the Dayco part is listed as an exact fit for a 2000 Ford Taurus, it does not match the original Ford part specs. However, this part does fit.

Generally, new a/c compressors come with pulley. If it does not, it is always better to replace compressor with new pulley.
