Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Belt Tensioner:

The tensioner was fairly easy to install. The old one was so wore out that it was causing major noise under the hood. Not to mention it sounded like it was about to come apart and go flying from the hood. The hardest part on replacing it was realizing that the engine had to be dropped to get to the mounting bolt. Once engine was tilted by removing top motor mount on passenger fender well. Just make sure you have a jack under the engine. The old tensioner literally fell apart upon removal. The new one fit perfectly. Same size pulley as the factory so no modification needed there. That was all there was to installing it.

              A:

With reference to your inquiry on Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty - Part No. 89264, to remove the tensioner on a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2L you either need to lift the motor a bit or remove your fender and inner fender well because no tool can remove that pulley/assembly in that clearance. There are only a few inches between the tensioner pulley and the inner fender well. For further assistance, please visit your nearest Advance Auto Parts store. A:

There are two things that I know of that could be happening that is causing the noise. The belt tensioner could be going out, or the alternator could be going bad.
