Some Dayco belts and tensioners just look a touch on the flimsy side to me. Belts look like there is a shiny and plastic content. For this tensioner, I'll try and snap a pic. But what you get isn't quite like the sample pic. To me it's a sign of cheap when the internal spring comes out of the housing and anchors to something external. Maybe this is better and will last longer, but it's definitely not like the OEM and not as nice to look at. But all in all this a solid replacement part.

The dayco belt tensioner was easy to install but three weeks after I installed the tensioner it start to make a noise. I would not buy another dayco product.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Belt Tensioner:

Dayco stuff works. I just like Gates better. This tensioner is a classic reason why I'd rather gates. I was in a pinch and recently addicted to the Advance Auto buy online and pick up in store !! See attached photo. Not sure if having this type of spring keeps the setup "simple and reliable" or if it just means "cheap design". All in all a decent product for the price.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Belt Tensioner:

It's only been a couple days big everything is working as it should. The original 12 year old tensioner was no longer keeping the serpentine belt taught. As a result the belt slipped and got caught in the alternator pulley and shredded. This happened twice.

I noticed as I was putting the second belt on the tensioner required me to extend it to the furthest position by hand.

Installation on my Yukon was easy. Remove 3 bolts and tensioner, install new tensioner. Included instructions state to torque to 35lb.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Belt Tensioner:

On my silverado 1500, the installation was very simple, routing the belt was just a little challenging. It is best to change the belt also when a pulley or tensioner go bad, just to be safe.

Belts were squealing during rain and humid days. My 2005 GMC Sierra crew cab has 130k miles. Decided to change belts and tensioners. Piece of cake install. Took less than 15 minutes. No squeal.

The part was used to replace the old worn out factory part that was 13 years old. I liked the "No slack" design and the ease of installation. So far the customer [my picky Dad] is very pleased. I will use this brand over and over again.

                    A:

I'm glad to assist, Bill! The tension does not need to be adjusted on this Dayco No Slack Belt Tensioner (Part No. 89253) The tension is already set, to release the tension you will need to use the correct size drive socket on a breakover bar, ratchet or serpentine belt installation tool to rotate the tensioner arm to release the tension. Once you remove the tool with the belt in place, the tensioner will then hold the belt in place.

The installation instructions are located here: http://www.daycoproducts.com/dpdata/images/IS253.PDF
