Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioners are specifically built to outperform and outlast competitive OE parts. The heavy duty cast aluminum spring case resists cracking and fatigue. Each component is built to resist rust, endure the toughest of conditions while promoting quieter performance and longer life.

Product Features:
  • Manufactured with a specially coated patented flat wire spring to allow the internal tension to be concentric, thus providing a more even degree of constant tension
  • Contains a metallic locator pin built to withstand extreme drive demands and properly locate the tensioner for installation
  • The patented Deflected Arm Plate dampens arm movement, prolonging the life of the tensioner by limiting the amount of rotational movement
  • This tensioner is another Dayco product proudly made in the USA

After returning to Advance Auto to get the right part number tensioner (89230 vice 89252, online catalog problem), I installed it and ran the engine. It seemed to work OK. However, during a trip, my wife complained about a "rattle". When she returned, I heard a "clicking" noise which I noticed corresponding to tensioner movement. The noise has gone away, but after a conversation with a Dayco tech, I may end up having to replace it if the noise returns.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Belt Tensioner:

this product was great easy to install and a direct fit from the worn out factory part. it does what it is supposed to do and keep the correct tension/deflecting rate on the belt. make sure when you replace this part that you put a little bit of thread lock on the bolt to help keep the vibrations from ever backing or out or loosen the bolt you don't need a lot

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Belt Tensioner:

This tensioner seems to work well now that it's installed in my 2002 Explorer - holds the belt right where it should be and seems to keep it plenty tight. Smooth and quiet operation. The only issue: the "body" of the tensioner is not quite as "thick" as the OEM. The belt pulley rides in exactly the same place, so function is not an issue, but the dust cover that was on the OEM unit added some thickness. The result: you can't use the original mounting bolt to install the tensioner - it is too long and will bottom out before this new, skinnier tensioner is tight against the mounting surface. The answer: Go to hardward store and buy a new bolt - I think it was M10 x 60-mm. Then you're good to go and no problems.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Belt Tensioner:

My 2002 Ford Ranger with 88K miles started chirping like a bird so I ordered the tensioner and a new belt. It was somewhat difficult to do just because of the tight space (not the product's fault). I found getting the belt properly routed was difficult to do alone. The old unit came off fast and the new one installed quickly. The only trouble I had was getting the new belt installed. I ran back to Advance and loaned their serpentine belt tool which made the install possible. Advance has great sale prices and I was able to score the tensioner and belt for around $30 (after rebate). I'm sure an auto repair shop would've charged me at least $80 for parts and $100+ for the installation. Thank you Advance for saving me money.

          • Q:

When installing this Dayco belt tensioner, do I need to use a torque wrench? If not how is it bolted to the engine? Also, do bolts come with the tensioner?

              A:

I recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts. Bolts are not included with the tensioner.
