I only recommend this part for those who cannot possibly afford a higher quality part, or who needs it right now. Dayco makes good rubber products and should have continued in that market. The original tensioner lasted 130k miles. The first replacement squealed almost as bad as the one it replaced. I swapped it under warrantee with less than 100 miles on it. The second replacement spring is slightly bound in the housing. It chirps on cold start until the engine is warm.

SQUEAL IMMEDIATELY STOPPED

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Belt Tensioner:

Replaced belt and began to hear a squeal. Found a very worn tensioner bearing. Easily found item on Advance Auto website.
Upon installation, squeal immediately ceased. Have read regarding some items experiencing premature failure. I cannot comment on this at this time. Part appears of very good quality. Instructions easily read and followed. The package even contains parts for modifying the original mounting bolts should that be of necessity.
Overall a very good part at a good price.

New bolt works better than the original torx bolt.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Belt Tensioner:

The old part was difficult to remove due to the T45 torx bolt which had an A/C metal line in way of rachet with torx bit. The conventional replacement bolt was far easier to reinstall. The replacement bolt (1 of 3 choices) came with package and instructions stated not to reuse the old torx bolt. That was good news. The A/C lines and compressor had recently been replaced so that may have been reason for lack or normal space to remove old torx bolt.

Easy to replace on 03 ford Taurus

    By

    from Richmond, VA

    Verified Buyer

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Belt Tensioner:

Very easy to install on 03 Ford Taurus, we were having issues with the belt squealing like crazy on take off or any acceleration. The shop originally replaced the serpentine belt and idler pulley hoping that would fix it, and for a day it wasn't making any noises. On the second day however the squealing came back. The shop wanted almost 150 to install the tensioner so we decided to do it ourselves and save over 100 dollars. Install took about 10 minutes, a little tight to get to, but once you take the idler pulley off, it was accessible. VERY IMPORTANT: use the bolt it comes with in the box! It says in the instructions if you use the bolt that you took off of the old one, it will be immediate failure of the tensioner! The factory bolt is tapered, and the replacement is a standard bolt with a washer

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Belt Tensioner:

Replaced the belt on my 3.0L Ranger.
Immediately after starting, a chirp sound happened which got worse over time.
Changed original tensioner (lasted 175K miles)with this unit, chirp immediately went away.
IIRC, there were a few different size belts for this engine, may contribute to problems if the wrong size is used.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Belt Tensioner:

Purchased this for a 2006 Taurus that had a new belt, but still squeaked. The original tensioner spring apparantly was worn as this fixed it. Ford used several different types of mounting bolt and this single part covers all of them, which is a nice touch. Read the instructions that come with this part regarding the different style mounting bolts and the bag of bolts that come with the new tensioner!

I replaced the part about 4 months ago and this past week the mounting pin broke off. The only thing I could think of is when I replaced it the bolt that it came with was about 1/2 an inch to long so I cut it down. What should I do when I put the new one in?

To get the proper torque specifications, it is best to refer to a repair manual for that certain vehicle such as Haynes repair manuals which can be purchased at your local Advance Auto Parts store.
