Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioners are specifically built to outperform and outlast competitive OE parts. Each component is built to resist rust, endure the toughest of conditions while promoting quieter performance and longer life.

Product Features:
  • Manufactured with a specially coated patented flat wire spring to allow the internal tension to be concentric, thus providing a more even degree of constant tension
  • The patented Deflected Arm Plate dampens arm movement, prolonging the life of the tensioner by limiting the amount of rotational movement

I replaced the worn out, noisy factory tensioner with this aftermarket unit and found the fit and quality to be excellent for my 1997 Explorer Sport (4.0, OHC). It looks slightly different than the factory Ford part, and doesn't include the directional markings to loosen the belt, either. Those are the only noticeable cons at this point, having only driven a hundred or so miles since the part was installed.

This part rattles at idle on my 1996 Ford Explorer. I had to buy the real Ford part to get my truck back to normal.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Belt Tensioner:

Not a good replacement product. I have replaced my Belt Tensioners before getting 50,000 plus miles every time. This Dayco tensioner rattles and vibrates something terrible creating noise. The tension is fine, but something is a miss in the model. With any vibration in a motor I highly doubt this product will last long. I will be replacing it shortly when I have a little time.

I noticed the tensioner was sticking and moving eratically on the first day, ONCE it takes the load from the A/C it moves back and forth loosing tension. JUST GET THE MOTORCRAFT PART BT46 (F77Z6B209AA) and BE DONE FOR 10 years. I had a brand new belt on too. Good luck if you get one

I didn't realize how much noise the old tensioner was making until I replaced it with this one. Installation was quite easy (one bolt to remove and replace) and the product matached the OEM part I was replacing.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Belt Tensioner:

Run from this part. Mine failed after less than 1000 miles. Caused me to change a perfectly good alternator chasing down a "mystery ticking" that would only happen in gear at a stop with my 99 ranger 4.0 in gear. Turns out that the tensioner couldn't keep tension. I caught it when I went to remove the belt and the tensioner didn't spring back. I would not use this part if it were free! Grab one at the stealership and call it a day(probably cost about the same). If not I hope you have towing insurance. JUNK JUNK JUNK! Very disappointed!

Happy to help you Buford! The bolt on the tensioner should be a left hand turn to remove that bolt.

I have a 1994 mazda b4000, the same as a ford ranger with the 4.0 v6 vin X. A review says this product does not fit and has a RIBBED pulley on it which is what the picture shows also. Mine has a smooth pulley that the back of the belt rides on not the ribbed part, is there one with a smooth pulley and TWO mounting points like mine has not ONE as this part shows? This is NOT a direct OEM fit according to the picture and the customer review, I need one that will fit my truck no problem
