  • Q:

what does BWD stand for? would it affect starting if bad? would it affect rough idle and stalling?

      A:

I'm happy to help, Bob! BWD was originally part of Borg-Warner. This division was sold to Standard Motor Products. A failed fuel cutoff relay could definitely affect starting. The vehicle would likely not start at all. Rough idle and stalling could be a number of other issues.

This BWD relay is also used in the compressor control, computer control and fog light circuits in your 2002 Dodge Caravan SE with the 3.3L V6 Flex Fuel. If you do not already have one, I suggest purchasing a repair manual for your vehicle (Haynes Part No. 30011). The repair manual may help you diagnose the cause of failure and provide replacement instructions.

For additional diagnostic assistance, I suggest speaking with a mechanic.

      A:

Hi Pennsylvania, happy to help! The fuel cut off relay gets a signal from the engine control unit only when the engine is turning. If the relay was faulty, it is very likely that the pump would not operate, and so the car would not start. I would suggest that you to take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.
