Replaced this product 4 times under warranty and it now failed again. Based on this product, I would not recommend any Carquest products. The required quality level is apparently too low.

Looks easy to install but bottom screw is a bear to get back on. Not the manufacturers fault - Jeep Wrangler carb configuration.

Comments about CARQUEST by BWD Idle Air Control Valve:

No comment on this standard replacement part. I can't really say that hte part is the problem but it seems to be. The vehicle runs with the part unplugged but the idle is a bit higher. My truck continues to run without it but it eventually stops with it.

Did not work - broken out of the box

              By

              from Highland Park NJ

Comments about CARQUEST by BWD Idle Air Control Valve:

Looks like and fits like original equipment.

Unfortunately it did not work, right out of the box. Random glitches and infrequent engine trouble lights about "bad IACV wiring" which were in fact problems with this IACV unit.

I don't know if this is infrequent problem or just bad quality control.
Finally replaced it with another brand.

                  A:

The idle air control valve on your 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo should be located on the back of the throttle body. It has an oval electrical connector and two torx screws holding it in. Unplug the connector, remove the two screws then lightly tap the body with a soft faced mallet to loosen it from the body. For any further assistance, please visit your nearest Advance Auto store or call us directly at 1-877-ADVANCE (238-2623) and one of our representatives there would be more than happy to assist you.

what does this do ? and would this cause my 99 grand cherokee 4.0 to stall when cold ?

                  A:

An IAC (idle air control) motor is designed to adjust the engine idle RPM speed by opening and closing an air bypass passage inside the throttle body. The cars computer or PCM (powertrain control module) receives information from various sensors and will output signals to adjust the idle air control motor in or out to adjust engine idle speed by controlling engine idle air. An idle air control motor can fail one of two ways, either the motor short circuits and stops working or the motor will develop high resistance and cause the idle air control motor to react slowly, either failure can cause the engine to stall at idle. When a trouble code scan is performed it sometimes won't always detect a failed or weak idle air control motor.

Just to note, if the photo is correct, this is NOT the Idle Air Control Valve offered here, this is the Idle Air Control Valve "Motor" or solenoid that bolts to and operates the valve. You could have trouble with one or both items at the same time

thank you, yes the picture is not correct, because it is a general picture and not the actual part picture, we are still updating our system, which is still new, but thank you for catching that.
