my truck was stalling out not all the time and people said my feul pump was going out.lol I figured it wasnt my fuel pump it had to be something else. So I am cheap I got this part and put it in. It took me about 15 minutes to put it in. Now that includes popen the hood and getting toll out and changing part shutting hood then test drive. Really easy to install this part on a 97 dodge dakota. Recommend doing as a part of ruotine maintenance after 200,000 miles as my mileage increased and performance plus my truck ran like it was new. As things age i wouldve never thought this part would do so much for this quick fix. I went through all my autos and replaced them.

Comments about CARQUEST by BWD Idle Air Control Valve:

This part does its job, and it may cost a little bit more than you like but it plays an important part in the overall efficiency and health of your engine. I'd suggest putting a new IAC valve on your vehicle if it is over 10 yrs old even if you aren't getting error codes (yet) As well as TPS, MAP, O2, MAF (if equipped) They are all electrical and as with all electronic devices they are prone to failure especially on vehicles that are heavily used or older than 10 years (or more than 150,000 miles)

Does what it was made to do. 2000 Dodge Ram would not idle. I would check battery before you buy this control! If you are sure it is the idle air control vale, this is a good product.

Comments about CARQUEST by BWD Idle Air Control Valve:

This was an exact replacement for my original idle air control valve. Mine is held in place with two torx screws #25. I noticed an immediate improvment. No more stalling at traffic lights, no rough idling, much better performance. Before purchase of this part get a free code reader report at a local shop. My engine light had come on after the engine developed rough ideling and stalling. My free code reader report called for replacing the idle control valve. It took me about an hour to do the job, but I consider myself a slow worker. This is a very easy job to do.

My dodge ram usually idles at 800 rpm. One day it went up to 1200. I removed the throttle bodies and cleaned everything. No joy. This part solved it. Remember to disconnect the battery for a bit then reconnect before trying the new part to cycle the ecu and avoid the check engine light.

I have a 5.2L V8 318 and was suffering from poor gas mileage because the engine was always revving with or without a load on it. Replaced this part and my idle is where is should be and my gas mileage is improving. After replacing remember to take the neg. batt. cable off for several seconds and then attach again to rest the PCM/ECM/ECU Will write another review after a road trip to let everyone know how much my MPG improves. I have already recommended this part to someone else who is having a starting issue after vehicle has warmed up.

Comments about CARQUEST by BWD Idle Air Control Valve:

I was having an issue when my 1997 Dakota, it wouldn't start after it warmed up. If I turned it off it would start then die.
After it cooled down it'd start fine.
Also the second thing the truck was doing is no high idle ever. Not on a cold day. Not ever.
I wasn't getting any codes. I started to research for others that might have had the same problem. I read online for the same symptoms and this was the item I found. It solved the issue. Located in the back of the throttle body it was a very easy repair.
I got lucky as this was the first part I tried to install.
So, if the vehicle is having a hard time starting after it is warmed up. And you don't get a high idle when it is cold... This could be your issue.

Comments about CARQUEST by BWD Idle Air Control Valve:

This item comes with a few extra parts for various installations. Quality of this part seems to meet OE specifications. The average do-it-yourself person will easily understand the install instructions included. I now, more than in the past, use parts from my local Advance Auto Parts because of their quality and customer service. Other places seem to be "zoned" out when trying to do a simple diagnosis of a customers issues. I order my parts online and like the ease of being able to walk in and out in a matter of minutes, sometimes seconds it seems. As a tip, ordering online saves you money when code P20 is available to use to get a 20% discount.

                  A:

I'm happy to help, Chuck! If the idle air control valve was malfunctioning in your 1998 Dodge Ram Laramie, it should provide a diagnostic code. I found a link that explains how to test your idle air control valve here: http://www.wikihow.com/Check-an-Idle-Air-Control-Valve. This information is provided as use at your own risk. From my experience this sounds more like it could be a fuel issue, however we are not able to diagnose vehicles as we are not mechanics. If you would like another opinion from a mechanic, I suggest using our 'Need repair help?' link further down this page. Other diagnostic information may be available on forums specific to your vehicle and a repair manual could help as well. Part No. 30041
