Q:okay will a bad coolant sensor cause the vehicle to start sputtering and the idle to go up to about 3000 rpm and drop constantly when the engine reaches operating temperature other than that the car runs and drives fine until it reaches normal running temp.
A:Bad Coolant Temperature Sensor Symptoms: Rich Running Engine: A failing coolant temperature sensor will prevent a vehicle's engine from entering a closed loop. This will cause the vehicle to run rich meaning the engine's fuel mixture will have a higher percentage of fuel to air which will result in diminished fuel economy. The driver will experience this as sluggish acceleration and having to ride the gas pedal in order to achieve what would normally be an easily attainable city driving speed. Increased Vehicle Emissions: As a result of a fuel-rich mixture entering the engine block, carbon monoxide emissions will also increase. The driver will notice black smoke coming from the vehicle's tail pipe, which will be more pronounced as the car is accelerating. This increase in carbon monoxide could also lead to engine sputtering which will cause the vehicle to stall while idling or attempting to accelerate from the idling position. Engine Shutdown: a malfunctioning temperature sensor will often send incorrect information to the vehicle's on-board computer. As a result, when the vehicle reaches a normal operating speed the sensor may relay an incorrect signal to the computer that the engine is overheating resulting in engine shutdown. The vehicle will not be able to start again until the engine has completely cooled and will need to have the sensor replaced in order to prevent the recurrence of the problem. Q:DO YOU HAVE A DIAGRAM OF THE CTS LOCATION
A:If you could please provide the year, make, model and engine size of the vehicle and we would be better able to assist you.
Q:what temperature does it send a signal to the fan relay to start the fans?
A:Switching through the (PCM) provides fan control for the following conditions. The fan will not run during cranking until the engine starts no matter what the coolant temperature is. Fan will run when the air conditioning clutch is engaged and low pressure cutout switch is closed. Fan will run at vehicle speeds above about 40 mph only if coolant temperature reaches 110°C (230°F) It will turn off when the temperature drops to 104°C (220°F) At speeds below 40 mph the fan switches on at 102°C (215°F) and off at 93°C (200°F).
Q:Where is C.T.S located on a 1997Dodge Neon?
A:The coolant temperature sensor on your 1997 Dodge Neon should be located on the driver side of the engine right below the cam sensor on the head.
