I knew the resistor was burned out, but thought the motor had died as well, because even on high there was no air. I pulled the motor out and tested it, it was good. Pulled the old resistor out, it was definitely bad. The green coating had come off the circuit board, and the traces had lifted away, and two of them were broken that I could see. Removal was as others describe, remove one screw and loosen two others. The holes for the two are slotted, and open on the end, so it slips off once the screws are loose. Put in the new resistor, put the blower motor back in, plugged everything in, and my wife has A/C again.

This part is a bear to install but that is not really the fault of the part but how GM designed the heater. You will need some kind of flexible nutdriver to get at the screws holding it in.

The OEM part has the resistors printed on a ceramic substrate but this one has individual resistors soldered to a carrier. I am replacing a previous similar aftermarket part because there is a bad "burning" smell when I use low speed blower position. I don't know yet if this part will have the same issue but to be safe I would use the GM OEM part instead.

This part looks to be better than the GM original. It is a little difficult to install on a Monte SS (02) as the screws that hold it in are hard to get at. Thanks GM! If they were easy, it could be a 15min job. As it is, it's more like a couple hours.

product works well and seems a little better than OEM on my Monte Carlo. I had to bust the old one to get to one screw hidden in the back and a swivel adapter was necessary. The product went in much easier than the old one came out.

This is an exact replacement 2005 Buick Century with "manual" climate control. Besides the trouble of getting to the area to replace it, it went in great. I had to buy the Replacement Pig Tail because my old one had melted to the original Resister Pack. Splice 7 wires and screw this one back in. I only used one screw to re-secure it as the back 2 are a PITA to get to. Works great!!!

I would like a second opinion. A friend of mine recommended this part. I have an issue with my 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8L (not super charged). When I turn off my engine, my fan blower is still running at max speed. I have to disconnect the battery in order to turn it off so it doesn't drain the battery. Will this Resistor fix this issue? Thanks.

Hi Bob the Builder, the blower motor resistor could possibly the problem. However, I would suggest that you take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.

Also, I have no fan function what so ever. Could it be a bad ground or the blower motor? If it is a ground issue, where would I look for the ground connection? In the past the entire system shuts down every now and then, usually, hitting a speed bump pretty hard jars it back on. But now the unit is on but no fan. Thanks for any help

When the blower fan stops working then it should be a blown fuse or a bad blower motor or a faulty automatic climate control system. As there may be various reasons for this problem, I would suggest that you to take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.

                            A:

Blower motor resistors contain controls that determine air settings. If the airflow exceeds a predetermined amount, the blower motor resistor reduces airflow through the vents via wire coils. Each coil is responsible for one speed setting: Thinner coils correspond to higher air settings and offer the least resistance (the least opposition to the flow of electric current), allowing the blower fan to rotate faster, while thicker coils correspond to lower air settings and force the fan to rotate more slowly. If the blower motor resistor fails, the blower motor only functions at its highest speed and cannot decelerate. Replacing the blower motor resistor typically corrects this problem. As per BWD (manufacturer) this is the correct fit for a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with 3.4L Engine. It is located on the passenger side under the glove box. Test the blower motor fuse, with the ignition key on, using the 12-volt test light. Attach the clip lead of the test light to a good ground like a bolt screwed into metal, and touch the sharp probe end to the terminals on the fuse. An indication of power at both terminals of the fuse determines that the fuse is good. If one of the terminals has power and the other does not, the fuse is bad. Replace the fuse as needed. For further assistance please feel free to call 1-877-238-2623 and one of our representatives will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

yes ,very hard to get out,you need the right tools ,a flex 1/4 nut driver with sockets, take out the front screw and just loosen the 2 back screws and it will slide out. had to cut the rubber flooring to get to the screws, and if you take the blower out gives you a little more room.good luck.

                            A:

The blower motor resistor assembly is located to the right of the blower motor. The blower motor is located in the engine compartment on the passenger side of the firewall. Blower Motor Resistor has to be bought separately for your vehicle.

If the fan does not come on at all is it the blower motor or the resistor? I know the fan only worked on high before it quit all together. This is for a 2001 impala.

We would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not solve or be the problem.
