    Why do I have to pay a core charge? Can i just NOT give you my old one and save money?

      A:

      The core charge is used to encourage the customer to return the old alternator back for recycling. If you have the old alternator with you at the time of purchasing this alternator, you will not be charged a core charge. If you do not have the old alternator at the time of purchase, you will be charged the core charge but once you return the old alternator, you will be credited back the core charge.
