Q:i have a oil leak and oil has been leaking on my alternator. will that cause my alternator to not charge my battery.
A:The alternator is responsible for maintaining the battery charge as well as providing electrical power for the car once it is running, and not for starting it. You must get that oil leak fixed, too - it will eventually cause damage to rubber and electrical components. All electrical connections should be tight and free of corrosion, abrasion, oil, dirt and debris otherwise it will cause your battery power very low.
