        A:

        Yes, Typically, the alternator has three connections. One is the ground, which is provided by the bracket that you bolt the alternator to. Second is the main power terminal, and is connected with a bolt to a high power cable that goes directly to the battery. CAUTION: Make sure you disconnect battery ground before you put a wrench on the alternator stud, just in case you touch ground while turning the wrench. Third is a two or three pin connector that goes to the harness, providing regulator power and connection to the warning light. Some older alternators have an external regulator, and they will have a smaller bolted connection to the regulator. Its easy to see which is which, due to the terminal size.
