Ordering was so simple and quick, we picked it up in the store in less than an hour! The staff at the store was eager to assist us and even tested our old alternator to make sure that was truly the problem before we spent the money on the new one! Fabulous service! The purchase price hit at the same time as the credit for returning the old unit which was even better. Although we are not mechanics we were able to install the alterantor in our 2001 Ford F150 in under an hour which I think is pretty good for a couple of novices. The truck has been running great ever since and it comes with a lifetime warranty which is the best part of the whole shopping experience! Thanks guys!

Purchased this alternator February 2013, lasted until July 2015. Even though it has a lifetime warranty, after 2 years they purge records from their system. So they require you to provide the receipt, good luck with reading the print on the receipt after 2 years, it's gone. So do yourself a favor, purchase from Autozone, they keep records forever, so that is where I got my new one from. I will never purchase anything from Advance again.

I picked this up for my brothers 97 F-150. With the sale at the time, this alternator was cheaper by far than any other autoparts store. A pretty easy install, took maybe 10 minutes. I would certainly advise anyone to purchase this part. That being said, there are always going to be bad apples.

Sometimes those products that don't stand out are the best: I don't really want to think about my alternator, I just want it to work without fuss. This installed without a fuss, everything fitting perfectly, and works without a fuss. I'm quite happy.

how do you install a alterator on a ford 250 van

                    A:

Hi Heather! Kindly follow the instructions to install an alternator on a Ford F250. Disconnect the battery, by taking the terminal connectors off the positive and negative terminals. Move the terminal connectors into a position away from the battery, so they cannot touch the terminals while you are changing the alternator. Loosen the lug nuts on the front passenger side wheel, so they can be easily unscrewed once the vehicle is off the ground. Place tire blocks under the rear wheels, so the truck will not move while you are working. Jack the front end of the vehicle and, using either jack stands or cinder blocks, rest the weight of the truck. You will be working primarily on the passenger side of the truck, but the entire front end needs to be elevated. Remove the lug nuts the rest of the way from the wheel, and take the tire off the vehicle. Unhook the serpentine belt by applying pressure to the tension wheel. Check the serpentine belt for disrepair, while it is off of the vehicle. It will save time, money and aggravation to change it during this process, if it needs to be changed. The serpentine belt is connected to both the engine and the alternator and facilitates a transfer of power from the engine to the alternator. It is then transferred to the electrical systems, as well as back to the engine. Unscrew the bolts on the alternator bracket, until the alternator moves and the belts are able to be slipped off. Unscrew the wires from the alternator, and remove it from the truck. Plug the wires into the new alternator, and slip it onto the bracket. Reinstall the belt, and bolt the alternator down. Do not tighten the bolts completely. Adjust the tension on the belt, by pulling the alternator down, while tightening the bolts. Reinstall the tire. When the truck has been let down, connect the battery terminals.

Hi Heaterman, great question! The 8 groove pulley may work as a replacement for 6 groove OEM pulley. However, this alternator is vehicle specific. For assisting you further please provide the year, make, model and engine size of the vehicle.

                    A:

Problems with a rebuilt alternator can mimic those of a new alternator. Bearings can be improperly installed upon rebuilding or wiring can be either attached incorrectly or poorly soldered for a loose connection. Also, rebuilt alternators can be installed by the mechanic incorrectly, which can cause electrical issues in the vehicle.
