This was an exact replacement for my 12 year old Explorer. Worked well and was very easy to install.
I also took the truck back to Advance for a free electrical test to make sure all was working well.
This is the second item I have purchased online for in store pick up and the process was quick and easy. The information online was great and enough for me to be confident on my decision.

The original alternator failed while my wife was traveling about 250 miles from home. Thanks to the tow truck driver, she found a shop that was just closing but agreed to fix it. They ordered this alternator from Advance and had her on her way again within an hour. About 6 weeks later intermittently the battery light would come on and the needle indicated no charging. Naturally, it never did this when I was around, and it tested fine. But two weeks later it died. Though it should be covered under the 90 day warranty I have no paperwork for the part, just the bill from the garage, so I would have to drive 500 miles round-trip to return it to them. The cost of gas for that trip made it a break-even for me to just replace it. I chose the Remy new alternator over another one of these.

Comments about CARQUEST Alternator - Remanufactured - 130 Amps:

I purchased this alternator/generator as a replacement for the OEM unit. The original failed after ~150,000 mi, 9 years. In the six years since I've replaced this twice more (under warranty), and repaired one of the replacements once as well.

Since I had it disassembled I had a chance to see how they are rebuilt, and my biggest issue was that the brushes were not free moving because of poor assembly work.

If I were forced to purchase a new one, I'd either rebuild it myself (not that difficult), or purchase a higher quality unit to get longer life.

Intital installation was excellent; perfect fit; only problem was getting sepentine belt loose and that is a Ford design issue. Hope it lasts well; OEM went 14 years!

                A:

Installation Instructions: Removing the Old Alternator: 1. Pull your car into the garage or your work area. Turn the car off and let it sit for a while to cool. 2. Begin by disconnecting the negative cable of the battery. 3. Remove the serpentine belt from the pulley on the alternator. Do this by using a socket wrench to turn the serpentine automatic belt tensioner so that it allows slack in the belt. Then simply slip the belt off the alternator pulley. 4. Locate and disconnect all the mounting bolts on the alternator, use a vehicle specific manual if you have any trouble. 5. Disconnect all wires attached to the alternator then remove the alternator from the car.
Installing the New Alternator: 6. Slide the new alternator into place. Do not worry about the serpentine belt yet. 7. Replace the bolts that held the previous alternator to secure the new one in place. 8. Attach the wires to the new alternator the same way they were attached to the old one. 9. Adjust the serpentine belt tensioner the same direction you did in Section One to put slack in the belt. Wrap the belt around the pulley of the new alternator and then remove the socket wrench from the automatic belt tensioner. 10. Inspect the belt to be sure it is not snug and follows the path required in the pulley and belt configuration diagram. 11. Hook the negative battery wire back to the negative terminal on the battery.
