I called Remy and they said this is probably an OEM unit, the box was marked OEM. So it appears this is a OEM unit and would have gone into a new vehicle which means more reliable quality IMO.

Installing this alternator is relatively easy on a 2.2L S10 pickup. If you remove the plastic radiator shroud and intake air duct you can do most of the work from above. The alternator is held on with 3 bolts.

There were special instructions with the unit that made no sense. I called Remy and they said they were in the process of rewriting the instructions. If you remove the battery cables (and who wouldn't) then it seems you can remove and attach the alternator wires any way you want. If yopu leave the battery attached then you need to attach the wires to the alternator in a particular order so you don't reverse bias the regulator.
I think this applies to service shops where they work at a faster pace and might do the job with the battery attached.
Just remove the battery and don't install it until the new alternator is in and this doesn't become an issue.

Anyways the installation went well. Getting to the rear bolts is not easy. I had to reach in through the wheel well. I didn't raise the vehicle or remove the wheel - just wiggled in over the tire and past the rubber flap over the upper control arm. Removing the wheel would have made this much easier.

Ther is a Lifetime warranty through Advance Auto but I didn't get any warranty card. I guess you just keep the receipt and they know it's a liefteim warranty.

When I fired the truck up the Aletrnator worked. I saved about #200 over having a rebuilt installed AND this is a new OEM alternator. Plus I know the job was done right.

Carquest 100 amp. Bream new not reman/rebuilt. Looks real nice. High quality even. Installed in a s10 2.2. Was a real PITA due to location. Finally got old one out, new one in. Fired up the old 4 banger and she purred like a kitten.14 running volts. Sweet! Put away tools and headed to my neighborhood advance auto parts store to return the core. BUT, On the way there the battery/charging light comes on and the volts dive to 12. Limp to advance and they confirm the brand new carquest alternator already gave up the ghost. So I'm down a vehicle again awaiting a replacement to go through the same aggravation of replaceing it again. So yeah 1 star....

Comments about CARQUEST Alternator - New - 100 Amps:

Perfect fit and works as it is suppose to. I bought this particular one because,
      1. It was readily available,
      2. life time warranty in comparison to Delphi which is only 12 months,
3, On Sale with 20% Labor day savings.

I could get one form an online store but it could have taken almost a week and shipping charges could have been more than $15 to add to the price. Keeping vehicle out of service this long is not worth a $30 savings.
In case if this alternator fails, I can take to the local store and simply replace it with new one since it has a lifetime warranty.

Comments about CARQUEST Alternator - New - 100 Amps:

The alternator was brand new out of the box because my old alternator was going out. I had a lifetime warranty but apparently this one was the only replacement that was available. I installed it and started the truck up. Took a minute for it to kick in. Figured it was just a first time kick in issue. I was wrong, whenever I drive aggresvily and it hits 3k rpm it stops working. If I drive easy sometimes it will come back sometimes it takes a few moments. Not good. Will be taking off truck today and get another replacement...

Bought about a year and a half ago. just failed recently. brought the old one into the store for a replacement and they conveniently could not locate my warranty information. I had to buy a new one for full price because they couldn't verify i bought it.

Very reasonable priced. A "shade tree" mechanic was able to install with relative ease. I drive 200+ miles at night in rural areas as a home health nurse..need reliable, cost effective replacement parts for personal vehicle such as this one.

Comments about CARQUEST Alternator - New - 100 Amps:

I purchased this Remy replacement alternator over the similar models because it was new, not a rebuilt, competively priced against rebuilt alternators, and it was listed as an "Exact fit".
Only issue in the online purchase was the store computer listed it as in-stock but they didn't have it... They had it delivered from another local store which delayed me just a few hours.

Installation on a S-10 4 cylinder was not difficult but not easy either due to the low mounting of the alternator. Access is gained through the front passenger wheel well.

Kudos to AdvanceAuto on the "Exact Fit" designation - it has not been wrong yet and this time was no different. Upon installation, restarted the vehicle and confirmed it was working correctly and to spec.

Return of core was very easy as well.

Comments about CARQUEST Alternator - New - 100 Amps:

There is no clear cut way to remove and replace a 2.2 third generation s10 alternator. The Haynes manual helps, and so did the forums, however, just like changing the spark plugs, wires, and coil packs, this job is easiet with the truck jacked up, the front passenger side tire off, a flashlight, and a second person to help. I had to remove the intake, fan shroud and serpintine belt, then mess around with a METRIC ratchet close end wrench. SOCKETS DO NOT FIT. Get a ratchet wrench set if you plan on doing this yourself. Disconnect the battery cables, then the wires to/from the alternator (from outside wheel well is easiest) then remove hardware. The new replacement slips right in and assembly is a synch. Only the removal was a pain due to vague instructions. Great replacement though, no problems yet.

It looks like a quality part, I personally had no problems installing it. It works great, it's in a stock truck so there is no huge electrical demand on it. The original one was just worn out, this one I installed and haven't had any problems, it works great.
