Here is the tip of the month. It is terrible to install a fan motor on a Jeep, UNLESS you have a FLEXIBLE 10MM 1/4 inch drive socket to remove the lower left fan shroud bolt. Only this flexible socket will work. You will also need a 6 inch 1/4 drive extension. A standard 1/4 inch flexible joint with a 10MM socket won't work. It won't fit between the bolt head and steering unit. This will prevent you from removing part of the undercarriage, draining the radiator and save hours of work. Remove the top radiator hose and the shroud will pop out. Fortunately, this motor has the "star" adapter to attach the fan blade assembly as the one on the old motor will not come off!

This motor comes with a triangular shaped bracket that provides the means to turn the fan blade, as well as a pin that sits in the motor output shaft (Both pieces are needed for the fan to rotate!). This pin broke and flew out onto the road causing the motor to spin without catching on the fan, thus the fan did not spin and could not cool the engine. I replaced the pin with a cotter pin found at [...] which broke as well, and sheared off the triangular piece. I do not want to replaced just to have a repeat of this problem.

What a piece of junk. One month old and it is dead. Do yourself a favor and buy an OEM part or a junkyard part.

Comments about CARQUEST 4 Pole Radiator Fan Motor:

The fan fits fine.... Once you get it in. The hardest part about this replacement is getting the fan shroud out of the way. At least on an 01 grand Cherokee. Once bent wrench later to get into the shroud bolts, and about 2 hours it was fixed. The time to replace the motor was only about ten minutes. As someone else mentioned it comes with the electrical plug so no stripping wires, just plug and play.

Overall good fix, motor works.well, pulls a good bit of air so problem solved. Just take your time an give yourself a couple hours.

As previously mentioned the piece broke. However I contacted the company that actually makes these motors and pieces and they sent me a new motor with the triangular piece and used loctite to secure it. They assured me that they would update all packages sent to Advanced Auto so they would include loctite which you must apply yourself and it would fix the problem. The new motor they sent has worked great so far. Bottom line: the problem is fixed

The picture shows the wires cut at the end, but I was pleasantly surprised when mine had the proper connector already installed. Quick replacement on my '99 Grand Cherokee and works perfectly.

The fan itself wont turn on any quicker at any temperature but what you could do is run a switch to flip it on whenever you want or you could just purchase a lower temp thermostat in order to get the system to kick on faster to keep things cooler.
