My radiator a/c fan motor went bad so the a/c compressor wasn't working. The fan motor would work if I tapped it, probably had a bad spot on the rotor or the stator. The replacement fan with housing was around $80. The motor was around $25 with $10 off. I kept the original housing and fan blade. The motor fit perfectly into the housing and the fan blade. Put everything in and it worked just like before. I had been running the a/c full blast every time I drive for 1 week. So far, no problems. The mechanic was going to charge me around $150 for a new fan/housing plus labor. It took me about 2 hours with videos on YouTube with a standard set of tools. Make sure you get the correct motor. This one is for WITH a/c. There is another on the website with parts, but it's for WITHOUT a/c.

Pros

  • Good alternative to replacing the entire cooling fan

Cons

  • You need a little mechanical skill to R&R the fan and replace the motor

Best Uses

Comments about CARQUEST 2 Pole Radiator Fan Motor:

Cost effective solution to replacing the entire fan. Install requires a little mechanical skill. It's much quieter than the noisy worn out fan motor that it replaced. Seems to be doing its job well.

So inexpensive to work so good!

Comments about CARQUEST 2 Pole Radiator Fan Motor:

I had an issue with my car to where I would drive with the ac on and it would blow cold air fine and then I would come to a stop having to stall and idle and the car would start blowing out hot air and the temperature gauge would go up. It only worked fine while driving. I used to tap the back of the fan motor and it would work fine while sitting and idling about 2 minutes but ever since I replaced the fan motor which was extremely easy all my issues are fixed! Ac works again! no more idling!

Comments about CARQUEST 2 Pole Radiator Fan Motor:

Product comes without the Drive Plate or the Bolt which is in the pictures so it should come with it but does not. This makes installation of the new motor very difficult, since you have to get the old one off and put it on the new one. The motor is not the smoothest running either when you spin the motor it makes a light ticking noise like a baseball card in bicycle spokes. The fan assembly takes some playing around with to get out especially with A/C, but it is not difficult just somewhat time intensive. It is in and works now, we will see how well this motor holds up.

The fan plate they provided had 6 slots. The old motor has 8 slots. The nut they provided was right hand thread. The motor shaft is left hand thread. It looks like they put the wrong parts bag in the box. Otherwise the motor fits the mount reasonably well, had to angle one screw because the hole was off just a little.

                      A:

With reference to your inquiry on the Factory Air Radiator Fan Motor - part# 35656, on your Saturn SL Series the cause might be a bad fan relay or a temperature switch. Try first to swap the relay with another. It would be located under the hood. If the switch is bad you will need a scanner to see what the temperature reading the sensor or switch is giving. If the switch or sensor is bad you should have a code. Check the coolant level (cold not hot). It is normal when the engine is at running temperature and the car is shut off for the fan to run sometimes. If the coolant is low and it is running hot it may stay on for extended periods of time. This may affect the battery life but not the alternator. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. For any further assistance, you may also call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our Parts Pros will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

Check with your public library and ask them how to look it up. The library here in Lincoln, NE has all of this available on line. You may need a library card. I looked it up, printed the instructions (with pictures) and took it out to the car and popped it out.
