Comments about Cardone Power Steering Pump w/Reservoir - Domestic:

Nice packaging, very detailed instructions even though what the instructions detailed was already done by the manufacture. The part did fit perfect but as soon as I started the car up the new pump sounded bad. Eventually though it did get better so i didn't think much of it. About 4 months after replacement of the pump i was changing my oil and noticed power steering fluid leaking out of the shaft. Not much i could do but wait for it to go and yes it finally blew out the seal going down the road. Oh how great was that drive home. I now have to take this all apart again to take this junky part back in for the warranty and replace it with another pump. I hope this one will last, I do not like wrenching on things that should last longer then what this pump did. Overall disappointed but i realized if you don't get the original then your just asking for problems.

Cons

Comments about Cardone Power Steering Pump w/Reservoir - Domestic:

Made a tremendous racket! I installed a new rack, lines and this pump. The pump sounds like an industrial grinder. After 1,000 miles it's still quite noisy but not as loud as it first was, but turn the wheel and it howls. It's still producing pressure so I haven't yet replaced it under warranty. I'm sure glad it has one.

Sometimes a remanufactured part just isn't right, and it appears this is one of those. Hopefully the replacement is good.

Comments about Cardone Power Steering Pump w/Reservoir - Domestic:

Great pump. Looked new to me for all intents and purposes (I bought a refurb). I put it in and it's behaving like a new one would. No complaints. The holes lined up exactly like they should. I had to keep my old cap -- the new one didn't come with one. Advance Auto Parts let me borrow a tool to remove the pulley from the one I was replacing, and they also helped me put that pulley on the new one, so I didn't have to buy another one. They let me borrow the serpentine belt tool and provided plenty of guidance through the whole process. Saved a lot of money doing it myself.

Comments about Cardone Power Steering Pump w/Reservoir - Domestic:

Semms to fit / function fine. I wish the pulley was already installed. It's not too hard to transfer pulley from old pump, but requires a special tool. If you don't have the tool then you will make several trips instead of one.

After unit is installed and PS fluid is topped off, raise front wheels off ground and turn steering wheel slowly from lock to lock until no more bubbles appear in reservoir. Then start engine for a couple of seconds and recheck level. Top off PS fluid. Restart engine and turn steering wheel slowly from lock to lock about 10 times. Do not hold against lock. This will bleed any remaing air from the system.

Power Steering fluid is leaking. Should the entire pump be replaced?
          Asked on 4/7/2012 by Anonymous

          1 answer

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

The pressure hose is really the only hose that typically goes "bad." Its the only one under high pressure and extreme pressures - so you should be able to get by with just replacing the one hose. If your pressure hose has been leaking, your pump would have run dry at some point. If so, your pump may be burned out also. So, please have a proper diagnosis from a certified mechanic to avoid intermittence.
