Comments about Cardone Power Steering Pump w/Reservoir - Domestic:

Quality is there for being remanufactured , decent instuctions and a new pressure line seal in the box. My pully from the old pump pressed on with no problems . I dont care for the black painted resivoir because you cant see the fluid level through the sight anymore , have to take off the cap to check the level but that wont stop me from buying another one if i needed it !

I have already replaced 3 of these pwr strg pumps on the jeep liberty, they groan when the weather gets cold, then when its below 30 deg it doesn't work. I have used the synthetic oil suggested by Cardone, but to no luck. I had the suspension checked by the Chrysler dealership, nothing wrong in any components. What's up

The pumps could be defective. I would take the part to a local Advance Auto Parts store and have it exchanged or contact the manufacturer to make sure the item is not defective.

It is possible that there is a restriction in the system (such as dirt constricting an orifice in the parts of the system other than the pump). You know that the groaning is coming from lack of flow during colder temps. I believe the system's restriction is enough to stop cold fluid because fluids are "thickened" by cold temperatures yet "thinned" by warmer temps.

I would suggest disconnecting the hoses and pouring clean, new power steering fluid into the return line (use a large volume funnel) and let it flow by gravity to reverse flush the rack-n-pinnion. {move the wheels lock to lock to help loosen debris} Try to catch the garbage in a coffee filter or strainer. Replace the rack if it looks like you caught any pieces of o-ring.

Also, check the pressure switch on the pressure line for any obstruction to its orifice. Clear the blockage or replace the swich as necessary.

Install a new power steering filter when you are done.
